Arts orgs have seen big funding increase since COVID. And there are more bursaries and awards available. But fees and rates remain stubbornly low in the face of inflation.
Funders and employers need to consider prioritising artist pay before further expanding programme sizes.
Writers are not expecting massive fee increases overnight, only an acknowledgement that current fees and rates rarely cover the hours of work involved, and that greater efforts and policy shifts are needed by employers and funders to improve the lot of writers.
