As October begins, we turn the corner and leave the honeymoon stage of school year 2022-2023. Let’s keep ‘the invisible black tax’ that can slowly creep up in schools in mind.

They must be promoted, paid for their time, and acknowledged for their strengths to prevent burnout and to maintain equitable experiences for all.

We must demand change for the way public education operates in this country. The carrot and stick approach doesn’t work anywhere but especially not when it comes to educating our most vulnerable students‼️

Can we talk about the age old carrot and stick approach that districts use to “motivate educators” to get better results???

Educators and educational institutions need the exact opposite; increased funding, high level support, innovative solutions to meet the demands of post pandemic schooling - including but not limited to trauma-informed instruction, and more flexible models for in person learning.

When restaurants can't find employees, they increase pay. When states can't find teachers, they increase... no wait, they lower the standards.
