When someone stops you at the gate and says your bag is too big, they may be being paid a bonus for finding it.
Airline executives were asked about this under oath, minutes after one of them told the committee there was "a lot of misinformation" going around.
"Do you pay your employees a fee? Do you incentivise them to go pick out bags from people getting on planes and kick them off the flight? Just yes or no."
The executive started to explain how the payment works and was cut off mid-sentence. "Okay, that's a yes." A second airline then confirmed it had been paying staff the same way and stopped on 30 September.
@itskwasi If they don't pay you back, the only thing you can do is small claims court. On a few hundred dollars, the filing fee and a day off work cost more than the debt.
@glenpmatthews Most policies stop accruing once you hit a cap. So past that point every day you don't take is one you never earned, and you won't be told when you cross it.
@dontplay_z A baker sells each loaf once, to one person, out of their own pocket, and there are only so many hours in a day. That puts a limit on what the shop can take, and your wage sits under it. A marketing job is tied to money that keeps coming in whether anyone's working or not.
@austinxwalker Applying used to take effort. Now one click sends a saved CV and a model writes the covering letter in ten seconds, so one opening takes hundreds in a day. You can't read hundreds, so they get sorted instead.
@pritika_9 With cash you can see what's left in your hand. On the app you can't, because your balance isn't on the payment screen. You find out at the end of the month, when it's one big number and you've forgotten what half of it was.
@TheEpicVault Early on, a mortgage payment goes the same way rent does. On a $400,000 loan at 7% you'd pay about $31,900 in the first year, and only $4,000 of it ends up yours. The rest is interest, gone to the bank.
@subashr232 For most families that first crore is mostly the house they live in. Getting to ten is often just the same house and the same land, worth more on paper. And you can't spend it, because moving out means buying back in at the same level.
@kmr_dilip Founders mostly can't tell you how much cash is left, even if they want to. If they said it out loud in the middle of a raise it would kill the round. You'll see it in the small stuff first, like your expense claim suddenly taking three weeks instead of three days.
@SparkingFIRENC You're right. Look what a $100,000 head start is actually worth. You'd have to put in about $715 a month for thirty years just to end up level. That's $257,000 of your own money.
@keviv9 58,131 people finished a PhD in America last year. Most of the teaching jobs in American universities aren't permanent any more, they're contracts that get renewed or they don't.
@tanujDE3180 Sixteen experienced developers got timed on real jobs in code they already knew, half of them using the AI tools and half not. The ones with the tools were slower, and they came away thinking they'd been faster.
@satti_humaira They asked a few hundred people to look back over recent upsets and time each feeling. Shame and irritation were mostly gone within the hour, and sadness went on for days. The difference came down to how much they'd kept going back over it.
@napenforcer Someone did a proper study inside a consulting firm. The expectation there was 80 hours a week. Some of the men were doing 50 or 60, picking clients nearby so they didn't have to travel. At the year end their reviews came back the same.
@siddharthkp Across Europe there's a new rule that you should get the pay range before the first interview. Every country was meant to have it in law by June, and most of them still haven't. Germany is one of them. That's how your friend ended up doing five rounds without hearing a number.
@PriyaSatia In one study they put electrodes on students while they wrote essays, some using ChatGPT and some not. Afterwards they asked them all to quote a line from what they'd just written, and the ChatGPT group had trouble remembering what was in theirs.
@staysaasy That market number comes from a survey, and it's the companies themselves who fill it in. So when they say they pay 70% of market, that market is just their own numbers added up.
@BahlKanan If your health cover came with the job, it stops when the job does. Niva Bupa's group wording says it ends the day you stop being a member. You then get five days to ask for a personal policy that keeps the waiting periods you've already served.
@thehonestletter The price cap isn't one number. Ofgem sets a separate one for each way of paying. For a typical household that's £1,862 a year on direct debit and £2,005 if you pay when the bill lands. The cheaper one needs money sitting there on the day.
