We’re at #ICESASC22, in person and remotely! If you’re in Dublin, say hello to lab members @elmarmills and @madeleineguyant. All attendees can view the Fay Lab talks- presenters and titles below:
Spooked by model results, lab members, @ahartofthesea@elmarmills @LucyMcGinnis @Titidae@catalinaroman_v, decided to haunt @Honeypothill instead. You know what they say about work-{after}life balance!

@UMassD_SMAST was well represented at the #ICESASC22 with presentations by current and former students and faculty! Great to see some of the wonderful SMAST contingent all together:
@madeleineguyant Stakeholder workshops to develop simulation modeling tools for evaluating impacts of offshore wind on fishery-independent survey operations and data products
We’re at #ICESASC22, in person and remotely! If you’re in Dublin, say hello to lab members @elmarmills and @madeleineguyant. All attendees can view the Fay Lab talks- presenters and titles below:
@elmarmills Visualizing historical time series data in the presence of proposed offshore wind development areas to understand the potential impacts to a fishery-independent multispecies trawl survey
@gavin_fay Survey simulation experimentation and evaluation project (SSEEP): a participatory design approach to evaluate changes to marine fishery ecosystem monitoring surveys under planned offshore wind development in the Northeast US
We're really excited for tomorrow's first #QuantFishWorkshop of the semester, with @GrantAd17148426 on "Applications of multi-species assessment models and MSE in Alaska and beyond". Including a Georges Bank groundfish example! Wed 09/07. 11am-12:30pm EDT via Zoom. DM for link.
Honored to have the Faylab Lab Manual (https://t.co/lhN6SFub5l) highlighted as an example of collaborative and inclusive documentation using #quarto at #RStudioConf#rstudioconf2022
(2/2) to support current and future management decisions. Before joining the lab, Angelia served as a project manager overseeing stormwater compliance activities, watershed restoration goals, and database tracking needs.
Time to shine a lab member spotlight on Angelia Miller @elmarmills! Angelia joined the lab in the spring of 2021. Her master’s thesis work uses quantitative and spatial tools to model species interactions and movements in response to offshore wind development (1/2)
Today at 1pm, Drs. @gavin_fay (UMass Dartmouth) and Andrew (Lou) Carr-Harris (NEFSC) will present on the two simulation models being developed to support the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council’s recreational summer flounder management strategy evaluation. (1/2)
Congratulations to Marine Data Science Technician Olivia Aguiar, graduating today with a B.S. in Biology! Olivia has had an incredible impact on the Fay Lab and across campus (seen here presenting at the Benthic ecology meeting) and we wish her the best on all that lies ahead!
They will be presenting "How can structured decision making, risk assessment and understanding behaviors in fisheries governance improve integrated ecosystem assessments and ecosystem-based management?". DM for link (2/2)
The final Quantfish workshop of the semester is tomorrow, May 4th, 11am-1pm! Join us for a presentation by the Working Group on the Northwest Atlantic Regional Sea (WGNARS) (1/2)
We're excited to learn more about what @jonwcummings has been up to in his new role! All are welcome to join us via Zoom tomorrow for this #QuantFishWorkshop, DM for the link.
The 2022 Intercampus Marine Science Symposium is underway! Thank you to our dean Dr. Jean VanderGeynst for her opening remarks
