Big on understanding player roles and what they mean for FPL.
I’ll share my thoughts, ask questions, challenge ideas and have a bit of fun along the way.
Here to learn, connect, make friends and enjoy the game together.Let’s have fun.
This is something I think FPL managers often overlook. A key player gets injured and the immediate question is, “Who replaces him?” But the bigger question is how the team changes without him. His absence can affect roles, chance creation and the output of players around him.
Hearing a lot of lazy analysis from some popular FPL content creators (won’t name names) on eg, Diego Gomez.
Minteh is a rockstar and he matters. You can’t just ignore his absence and assume it means Gomez automatically benefits.
Minteh missed 9 games last season.
His teammates’ xGI/90 in those (albeit small sample) games:
- Gómez 0.380 → 0.224
- Rutter 0.333 → 0.113
- Hinshelwood 0.430 → 0.218
All three got worse. Minteh is a very important supply line.
Sels — 1.4%
Role: GK in a defensive system
Strong suit: Glasner’s defensive record
Routes: Saves • Clean sheets • Bonus
Opta also highlighted Sels as an under-the-radar GW1 pick, with Glasner now at Forest.
Role → Opportunity → Points.
People are bullish on João Pedro, but what about the players around him? If he scores, someone assisted him. If he assists, someone scored. Maybe the real FPL question is who benefits most from João’s involvement? 👀
