RISE – Stage 5: Business Endeavors
Stage 5 starts once all the infrastructure is in place, the social services are running, and the local economy is on its feet.
We unlocked entrepreneurship and strengthened sustainable local economies through small businesses, agricultural ventures, cooperatives, and targeted investment for diversification.
We follow the community's lead. We connect ventures to outside partners and capital.
What we deliver in Stage 5:
- Business training so ideas become plans, and plans become operations
- Cooperatives that aggregate scale where households cannot
- Agricultural ventures designed for regional markets
- Logistics support that moves products from farm or workshop to market
- Intermediation and microcredit so effort meets capital
- Strategic partnerships with private-sector buyers and investors
- An agri-food value chain that turns self-sufficiency into everyday life
This is how RISE became permanent in Marrangue, Mozambique.
This is how The Future Co builds communities that grow on their own.
RISE – Stage 4: Sustainable Communities
The question shifts from delivery to durability: how does the community sustain what it has built?
What we deliver in Stage 4:
- Local hiring into the TFCo team, neighbors first
- Permanent roles operating the RISE Service: maintenance, governance, fieldwork, training
- Productive employment in food, agriculture, and crafts
- Entry-level remote digital jobs that connect the community to the global economy
- Skills training calibrated to each opportunity
- A handover path so every external role is eventually filled from within the community
Sustainability means a working local economy.
This is how RISE became a long-term solution in Marrangue, Mozambique.
RISE – Stage 3: Where essential services start reaching every family
Rural poverty is the simultaneous absence of education, healthcare, legal identity, mobility, and the basic services every family should be able to access.
We work directly with school principals, health directors, local leaders, and public institutions.
Every program is co-designed with the organizations responsible for operating it long term.
Every service is adapted to the realities of remote, off-grid communities and managed by a team made up of community members.
What we deliver in Stage 3:
- Education adapted to local language and curriculum
- Primary healthcare, prenatal care, and child health programs
- Nutrition screening, food security, and school meal programs
- Housing improvements that make homes safer and healthier
- Community mobility through local transportation vehicles
- Connectivity for schools, clinics, and community spaces
- Sports and cultural programs
- Access pathways to formal financial services
- Social services and institutional support programs
- Multisector governance: community + government + The Future Co.
Every service is built alongside the institution that already holds responsibility for it, so adoption and long-term ownership remain within the community.
Stage 3 is what an integrated, multidimensional approach looks like at the household level.
RISE – Stage 2: Where the Master Plan becomes physical
Infrastructure is the precondition for everything that follows in RISE.
Stage 2 runs from month four to month nine. We work alongside public and private partners, and alongside the community itself, to install all the things needed identified during the Stage 1 diagnostic.
We work with community crews on every site.
We brief local officials at every milestone.
We train the operators who will keep the services running long after we leave.
What we deliver in Stage 2:
- Off-grid energy generation
- Drinking water and sanitation
- Solid waste management at the community's scale
- Vehicles and roads openning that end isolation
- Stable satellite internet
- A civic center as the institutional anchor of community life
Each technology is selected to fit the context: autonomous, off-grid where required, scaled to the community, and integrated into the Governance Software Platform from day one.
In Stage 2, every service is designed, installed, and maintained with the community. Ownership stays local from the start.
Even before Stage 2 ends, Stage 3 is starting. By month six, social services are underway.
Poverty will not be solved until there is a business in doing so. We are hacking the system.
Last night we hosted the investors' dinners of The Future Co @thefutco.
Poverty will not disappear through charity alone. It takes a profitable engine, real incentives, and a scalable model. The Future Co. is a for profit company that aims to eradicate rural poverty with a holistic solution that delivers transformation for communities and returns for investors. That alignment is not a compromise. It is the only way this can work at scale. for-profit
Last night I walked away with a feeling I do not get often. This project is the one I am most proud of in my entire journey. Not because of its size. Not because of its ambition. But because of what it represents.
I have been part of many things. But nothing compares to being part of a team that is showing, on the ground, that ending rural poverty is not a fantasy. It is a design problem. And it is solvable.
In Mozambique we are seeing the signs of transformation.
People gaining access to energy, water, health, connectivity, identity, basic services, and above all, the ability to build their own future with dignity and in a sustainable way. Not needing charity. Not depending on aid. Building real autonomy.
This is the work that moves me the most.
This is where I feel I am doing something that truly matters.
And this is only the beginning.
We already have a pipeline of more than 40 projects.
The Future Co. has a model that can scale across Africa, across Latin America, and across the world.
A model that aligns incentives, attracts capital, and unleashes local talent.
A model where doing good is not charity. It is sustainable, measurable, and investable.
I am grateful to every partner and investor who joined us last night.
To @jorgemaguado , our CEO, to @sguerrie , to Cami, Belen, and to the entire Future Co. team.
And I am even more grateful to the communities in Mozambique and around the world who trust us with something priceless: hope.
We will honor that trust.
And we are scaling this.
RISE – Phase 1: How we begin to end rural poverty
Poverty is not just a lack of income — it’s the absence of opportunity, services, dignity, and choice.
RISE Phase 1 is where transformation begins.
We spend three months living in the community, listening and learning.
We don’t arrive with a blueprint. We arrive with a proposal — one that is adapted and co-created based on what the community tells us they need.
We walk every road.
We talk to every family.
We understand their daily realities — and their aspirations.
Together, we build a Master Implementation Plan:
- Detailed baseline indicators across 37 dimensions
- Community-wide census and household mapping
- Workshops to adapt the service to the cultural context
- Signed agreements with community leaders and all levels of government
- Legal and administrative authorizations to ensure full compliance and legitimacy
We call this co-creation, not consultation.
This is not charity. This is not top-down aid. It’s a partnership — rooted in dignity, trust, and shared responsibility.
Before a single brick is laid, there is a shared vision.
This is how RISE began in Marrangue, Mozambique.
This is how The Future Co builds a future where no one is left behind.
In the coming weeks, we’ll show how each stage of RISE was built — and how it changed lives forever.
If you believe no one should be left behind, follow along.
We’re just getting started.
This is just the beginning.
📍 Marrangue is our first demonstration community.
With RISE, we are building a replicable path out of rural poverty.
Sustainable. Scalable. Real.
Humanity dreams of colonizing other planets.
We dream of a world where no one lives like they’re stranded on one.
TFC is not just a company.
It’s a system to end rural poverty — for good.
We started small. We built something BIG.
Our aim is gigantic.
In mid-2021, we — a group of dreamers — began asking a difficult question:
Why has rural poverty remained unchanged for over sixty years, even as global poverty has dramatically decreased?
Why has this terrible reality, affecting over 550 million human beings, not been sustainably reduced despite the billions invested by governments, multilateral development banks, NGOs, and countless charity organizations?
Can something be done differently?
Can we leverage humankind’s progress, ingenuity, and technology to finally solve this puzzle?
We decided to stop dreaming and start creating.
We developed a solution built on hard truths for rural areas:
- Poverty is multidimensional. Solving only one dimension is not enough.
- Infrastructure must be stand-alone and off-grid. It is the only efficient way to deliver energy, water, and other essential services.
- Long-term change comes from equal opportunities. Social services such as education and health are essential.
- Sustainability demands economic development. Job creation and entrepreneurial incentives must be central.
- Technology is a lever. There are new tools, but they haven’t been used to their full potential.
- Perhaps most importantly, the solution must be profitable. Charity helps, and subsidies can bridge gaps. However, long-term, sustainable change only comes when incentives align, and solutions sustain themselves.
We spent two years studying, researching, and listening.
We interviewed key players across disciplines.
We explored frontier technologies and tested new use cases for mature ones.
We worked thousands of hours, with the help of brilliant, committed people, to turn a vision into a business model.
That model became The Future Co.
And its solution is called RISE — Resource Integration for Social Empowerment.
RISE is a holistic service designed to lift rural communities out of poverty.
It goes beyond income improvement, integrating vertical services and technologies tailored to each rural community’s unique needs. This ensures that multiple basic needs are met simultaneously and sustainably.
It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.
Flexible and scalable, RISE can be implemented within two to five years and is built around six core components:
1. Master Implementation Plan: co-created with each community based on their unique livelihood patterns, culture, and context.
2. Essential Infrastructure Services: energy, water, sanitation, waste management, improved public spaces, digital transformation, transportation, and security.
3. Essential Social Services: education, health, food security, nutrition, housing, financial inclusion, sports, cultural activities, and identity.
4. Sustainable Communities: we hire locally and create decent job opportunities within traditional and digital business sectors.
5. Unlocking Business Opportunities: from agribusiness to crafts, we scale local value chains and unlock entrepreneurial activities so that communities cover their service costs from year five onward.
6. Governance Software Platform: to monitor, control, ensure impact transparency, and facilitate all interactions among community stakeholders.
Everything is designed with the community, not for it.
Everything is built to last and maintained.
This is not a theory. It’s live.
Through our first project, a small rural community of Gaza Province, Mozambique, 919 people from 216 families are rising out of multidimensional poverty.
Lights turn on at night.
Clean water flows.
Children go to school.
Families access medical care.
People generate income.
A community is building its future.
We don’t start with money. We start with trust.
We don’t promise charity. We offer structure.
We don’t generate dependence. We co-create exit strategies.
Now, we’re scaling.
The Future Co. is expanding RISE to hundreds of communities across Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
We’re engaging with governments, businesses, multilateral agencies, entrepreneurs, local leaders, and global investors to make it happen — building partnerships and exploring opportunities together. @globalcompact, @UN, @worldbank, @the_idb, @agendacaf, @afdb_group, @wef, @africa_heroes, @ConcordiaSummit, @Starlink, @mastercardFDN, @repubmocambique, @gobdecordoba.
Because the world doesn’t need more speeches about dignity — it needs models that deliver it.
If you believe the future must include everyone — let’s talk.
Rural poverty can end today.
Not with slogans, but with systems. We are committed to achieving that.
Welcome to The Future Co.
Let’s build the future together.
