@thefutureleft will discussing today at 2pm PST @LellyK from @VersoBooks her latest book on how to fight gentrification based on research from Toronto, New York, London, Paris and San Francisco and is critical of the lies surrounding this urban crises. https://t.co/DpGVzbNYTl
We should be asking why @Musa_alGharbi We Have Never Been Woke just hit #1 in Amazon’s inequality book category—echoing many of the critiques Vivek Chibber raised on Doomscool with @JoshuaCitarella. The backlash to “wokeness” isn’t merely reactionary; it’s a reckoning with a movement that swapped old hierarchies for a new class of self-styles egalitarian elites.
This is a bleak reality based on what has happened so far. Looking ahead, it seems likely that the same outcomes will occur under Trump, as ex-military officials from both Democratic and Republican administrations have pointed out.
"Nobody cares but I have to say it: so many of the prestige academic presses in the Humanities are publishing in a hothouse tumble cycle. Every once in a while, a group are determined to invent a new form of critical theory, the anthropocene, affect, whatever. Queer this, transphobic that. But they're all zombie forms of thought. In the meantime, a great deal of excellent and mediocre work continues to be done, in the shadows, without much discussion or attention."

Harris and Walz are more Republican-coded than Trump—not by ideology, but by reviving Clinton-era pragmatism that repackaged the '80s GOP. "Freedom. Freedom. Freedom." that channels Orwell, as the word disintegrates into an election result guaranteeing a rightward shift.
Happy to join the great folks @floricuas for a crucial conversation on Florida’s abortion laws and Amendment 4, on the ballot this Nov.
Protect and empower women as they seek necessary health care in their most vulnerable moments. I urge all in FL to vote YES on Amendment 4.
@OsseChi likely navigated the DNC’s suffocating debate limits as best he could. Pushing harder would’ve cost him—alienating AOC, being shut out by a professionalized, progressive movement that operates within the party. Though more inclusive in identity, this circle remains insular, with viewpoint diversity as narrow as the path to its elite ranks.
@paweiss @AnitaYandle Example:
You’re a juror.
Abortions are illegal in your state.
The defendant doctor performed an abortion.
Judge tells you if the defendant performed an abortion, you must find him guilty.
You smile and nod and vote not guilty.
That’s jury nullification 🪄
@ashlaystarstar@paweiss @AnitaYandle Fun fact: this is partially how abortion became legal in Canada. Dr. Henry Morgentaler kept getting arrested for performing abortions, and every time the jury used jury nullification. Eventually, Quebec realized they couldn’t enforce the laws and dropped them.
