As we get ready to welcome July, we're reflecting on unforgettable moments from last summer in Malawi. Every visit reminds us why this work matters and why we're committed to improving health at the far end of the road.

GAIA has recently been recruited to transport medical emergencies to a medical facility with ICU capacity, as well as blood supplies—because the hospital’s own ambulances had no fuel.
When fuel becomes scarce, life-saving services are put at risk.
A new Devex article from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), confirms our fears: global HIV services have not recovered from the major funding cuts that began in 2025.
These findings reflect what many community-based organizations are seeing firsthand: progress against HIV is fragile. Sustained investment in testing, prevention, treatment, and linkage to care is essential to protect communities globally.
Operating 8 Mobile Health Clinic vehicles with 38 clinic sites across Malawi, providing more than 250,000 patient visits annually, GAIA is demonstrating a practical, scalable way to solve one of global health’s most persistent challenges, the “last mile” gap in healthcare access.
This year’s impact was made possible by the incredible support of our community. Read our 2025 Annual Report to see what we achieved together: https://t.co/3TWnUTDjb8
Despite unprecedented challenges in 2025, GAIA continued delivering life-changing care and education across Malawi and Zambia, from 210,000+ mobile clinic visits to expanding maternal health services and supporting 900+ nurses across Africa.
GAIA is Nsanje bound.
We’re preparing to expand healthcare services into one of Malawi’s most remote and underserved districts, bringing mobile clinics, trained staff, and essential care to communities that need it most.
The last mile is getting shorter.
Last Saturday, we had the honor of celebrating playwright/screenwriter and longtime GAIA supporter Winnie Holzman for her extraordinary philanthropic contributions to our work in Malawi.

On #IND2026, we celebrate the nurses whose skill, resilience, and compassion keep Malawi’s healthcare system moving forward. This year’s theme highlights the essential role nurses play in delivering lifesaving care and strengthening communities, especially in underserved areas.
From rural hospitals to national leadership, GAIA Nursing Scholars are making a lifesaving impact across Malawi. Their dedication, resilience, and advocacy transform communities every day.
This month we honor the nurses who lead with knowledge, skill, and compassion on the front lines and beyond. We’re especially proud to recognize GAIA Malawi's nurse leaders Joyce Jere, Nelson Khozomba, and Lucy Nyirenda, whose work is transforming health outcomes in rural Malawi.
Today we honor the heart of healthcare, nurses. Across the globe, nurses are the backbone of healthier communities. At GAIA Global Health, we recognize and celebrate their impact everywhere. #NationalNursesDay
