Social media is great, but you need to close it sometimes and go see what real people look like.
Like people on here just look so stupid at this point.
@ashleyann_atx I’ve also had people be offended on my behalf??? Like I’ll say “yeah I found out I’m autistic” and they act like someone called me slur?? Super weird to me. I know it’s ignorance/ablism, but like… I’m still autistic and that reaction doesn’t make me feel very good
@ashleyann_atx I disclose for the same reason, and while it’s allowed me accommodations, I’ve also been:
1. Infantilized (too innocent, too pure, sweet cinnamon roll)
2. told “no you’re not” (??)
3. Suddenly treated like I’m incapable despite being praised for my abilities (autistic traits) 🥴
When I am self-advocating for myself and saying, I do xyz because I am autistic, I do run the risk of people thinking quietly to themselves ‘You are not autistic’ or ‘She is using autism as an excuse…’ I can feel these reactions. And it is bc I present with masked autism.
Nice kids are great, but people need to remember "bad" kids need the most kindness even if they aren't yours. There was a boy that was just awful, breaking into my garage & destroying things. The other kids hated him. One day, I saw him watching my kids & I drawing outside. 1/9
When you've been told for DECADES, that an English major or liberal arts degree is worthless and everyone should "learn to code," yeah, we're gonna end up with a society that thinks what writers do is easy and shouldn't be valued and AI is the solution. It's all connected!
