The inferiority complex of doctors at this point is crazy

So the NMA just wrote another long letter threatening to down tools because nurses and pharmacists dare to be called “consultants” in their own fields.

Same script they ran in 2020, same one they repeated in May 2025, and now December again. Same energy every single year like broken record.

Una no tire?
In the UK where many of you run to do MSc and PhD, consultant nurses have existed since 1999. They run clinics, prescribe, lead services, and somehow the sky never fell on patients. But here in Nigeria, the moment a nurse with 15 years experience in diabetes care wants to be recognised as a consultant in her lane, it suddenly becomes “patient safety risk” and “confusion in the ward.”

Confusion kee una there.
The only thing confused is the ego that cannot stand anybody else shining beside you. You want us to keep calling 20-year experienced nurses “senior nursing officer” while a doctor with 6 months experience automatically becomes “senior” to her. Hierarchy that only benefits one tribe.
God forbid teamwork.If the title “consultant pharmacist” or “consultant nurse specialist” is going to kill patients, then ban it for doctors too. Or are only doctors born with the special brain that can handle big titles without confusing themselves?

We are tired. Honestly tired. Every year this same rubbish. Let people who have dedicated their lives to their professions be recognised. Stop holding the entire health sector hostage because of inferiority complex in reverse.

Nigerian doctors, una too get pride abeg. Small thing, strike. Small thing, threat.

Heal thyselves first.
