These so-called “illegal roofers” are running legitimate businesses with proper EINs, paying taxes, and employing workers who have tax IDs—even if they’re undocumented. The government still gets its share, and these workers aren’t underpaid either: the average roofer earns around $200–$250 a day, while skilled crew leaders make about $400.
