Pakistan, with its vast landscapes and rich history, is sadly at the epicenter of the climate crisis. The evidence is clear and cannot be ignored. The glaciers in the North are receding at alarming rates, and the south’s once fertile lands are slowly giving way to desertification – Chairman PPP @BBhuttoZardari at the conference on “Human Rights and Climate Justice in Pakistan”
Exciting news! PPP HR Cell presents a Conference on Climate Change and Human Rights. Where we’ll explore the implications of climate change on human rights in Pakistan.
We’re thrilled to announce that chairman @BBhuttoZardari will join us virtually as our esteemed Chief Guest and senator @sherryrehman will be our keynote speaker.
The conference will be live-streamed, so you can still be part of this important conversation. Stay tuned for more updates! #ClimateChange #HumanRights #PPPHRC
Air pollution is no Instagram filter you can swipe away. In fact, for a country with low emissions on a global scale, our air quality is cause for action at scale. Conservative estimates suggest that 128,000 people die in Pakistan from air pollution annually https://t.co/9RlWXwNBpi
On International Day of #CleanAirforBlue Skies, let's remember clean air is not a luxury; it's a basic human right and an essential prerequisite for a healthy and sustainable future. Experts and global organizations have cautioned that pollution & climate crises present the most significant risk to individuals with respiratory illnesses. Pakistan is on the front lines of this challenge. Each year, an average of 128,000 lives are lost due to air pollution in our country. According to the @WorldBank , the economic toll of air pollution on Pakistan has reached a staggering 47.8 billion dollars. Our National Clean Air Policy 2023 provides Pakistan with a roadmap to achieve clean and stable air quality. However, the successful implementation of this policy depends on action by the provinces. Attaining clean air necessitates a comprehensive, multi-level approach. This includes reducing vehicular, industrial emissions, pollutants from agri and municipal waste, no burning of crop residue and switching to clean and sustainable energy sources for domestic cooking, more public transportation & electric vehicles, enhancing green spaces, fostering public awareness, and more.
