sorry but seeing people say dawn could've stayed with her dad is doing my head in. it's said multiple times that he does not care about any of them. he didn't even answer buffy's calls when joyce was gone. did you even watch the show at this point
@221bumblebee Either! Often younger priests will do first name, but so will any you’re familiar with. But, like any new person you respect, you usually start with last name unless they indicate to use their first, so Father McCormick might quickly become Father Paul
And can we all sit with the fact that Ilya assumed Rose Landry got engaged to Shane Hollander after only 6 weeks of dating because HE FUCKING WOULD HAVE DONE THAT IF HE COULD!
@centaurstation The book is clear that Ilya does this as a form of self-preservation. He’s never had love like Shane’s. His mother killed herself and his brother and father loved him conditionally at best. He was giving Shane an out that would be less painful for him if Shane took it
@butterfaegarden Catholic leadership? Yes many of the heads of church have written dissertations on theology, metaphysics, history, or branches of philosophy. Any charismatic person can be an evangelical leader
@IlyasCigarette The first time Ilya is inside him and he imagines Ilya getting stuck and them needing to call the fire department or some shit to come separate them, we love a catastrophizing king! He really is just like me!
@viaevis Shane absolutely was upset about it, that’s clear in both book and show. I have a lukewarm take that is, hey, let’s remember there’s this other piece to the situation that adds a little more context. Doesn’t invalidate Shane’s feelings on it, tho and I never said it did
@magicshop7yr I agree that my take is lukewarm bc I’m describing what happened but I think you sort of missed my point. Shane also had the context of Ilya’s humiliation at the Olympics. I’m sure he wondered how much was hit it/quit it, but he was aware how embarrassed Ilya was too
My lukewarm take is Ilya didn’t ghost Shane after their hookup, he ghosted Shane after being humiliated at the Olympics. He was so fucking embarrassed by his performance he locked the fuck in and won a Cup to prove himself to the entire world, especially his father (and Shane)
@angelluxegirl@alsoplati Fair enough- the show just shows them texting more than they do in the books, so I think it’s a reasonably interpretation but I don’t think it changes much
@Hawwyii37 My point is that ppl act like Shane felt like he got fucked then Ilya fucked off. Shane was fully aware that Ilya was HURTING after the humiliation of the Olympics. Ilya was still a dick this is just a nuance that most of the fandom ignores
@winecoloredsea Right?! Shane is going THROUGH it and Ilya is withholding vital information (which, I get it! I’ve done it). They love each other, they’re just doing a bad job navigating challenges together
The moment in TLG that best captures how far off their communication is is when Ilya feels so sad and lonely and texts Shane in the middle of the night, and Shane sees the text the morning, and shakes his head like, “haha, omg he’s ALWAYS horny!”
THEY’RE BOTH DOING THEIR BEST!
@snoopyilya Maybe a med student nearing residency? Cardiovascular surgeons are sort of stereotyped as jocky, intense and competitive
OR maybe like, microbiology? Some sort of bench-research scientist
I could also see him in politics, but like as a campaign manager/chief of staff type!
@stargirlllover I said it was still ghosting, I think the fandom likes to paint Shane as feeling rejected and hurt bc Ilya fucked him and then fucked off, when Shane canonically knows there’s more to it than that. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t still upset by it, but it’s more nuanced
@alsoplati@angelluxegirl I always assumed Shane texted to feel out if Ilya wanted to hook up during the rest of their games for the season (1 or maybe 2 at most) and Ilya didn’t respond
