Two hatches at Bath, one overnight (timing to follow) and the second at 07:15 this morning; 33/34 days from third egg, so in keeping with the trend at this nest. @Hawkandowluk
31 days since the 3rd egg (nominal start of full incubation) was laid. Four eggs visible as the falcon hands over incubation duties to the tiercel today. Hatch of the 1st egg at Bath for the past three years has been 33, 33, and 34 days from the 3rd egg. @Hawkandowluk@eddrewitt
Hen Harrier Sorrel has left her overwintering area in the Scottish Borders, flirted with the west coast islands, and is now understood to be paired up in the Highlands. Additional breeding progress but [hopefully understandably] location-vague updates will follow. @Hawkandowluk
Hen Harrier Sorrel (named by David Cobham as part of his last HH project) continues to thrive as she heads towards her seventh year. She has once again overwintered in the Scottish Borders Region, and her tag data show her to be beginning to range further afield. @Hawkandowluk
Our watch for the 18th season of the #HenHarrier Survey comes to a close. A massive thank you 🙌 to everyone who contributed in 2021/22, your observations are invaluable.
The falcon is beginning to make increasingly frequent visits and is spending more time in the box, apparently taking stock of her surroundings. @Hawkandowluk
Bath Peregrines' tiercel AA has been recovered dead from a building roof in Bath. Ringed with Blue Ring AA [the first of the project] by @eddrewitt on @stjohnsrcbathuk in 2007, T-AA assisted with chick rearing in 2008 and stayed on as the breeding male until 2020. @Hawkandowluk
The new Bath tiercel has taken to caching his prey [another redwing] in the nest box; let's see just how long that continues. I need to stop calling him 'new' as he IS the Bath tiercel. This year I'll refer to him as T-21, in case he doesn't cut it and there's a T-22 next year.
On 25 Jan we witnessed the BP pair [same falcon since 2014 but 'new' tiercel in 2021] exhibiting courtship/bonding behaviour during their first joint visit to the nest. This video has been left 'full length' to show their first interactions. https://t.co/G8YJMoXZsJ @Hawkandowluk
We knew a colour ringed bird was around this site in June but it’s taken until now to get confirmation of the code. Blue HV has taken up residence 12km from where it was ringed as a chick in 2016. Thanks to @Devonseasafari @BirdygirlDevon for images of it as an adult.
Another step forward today with the new pairing at Bath (new tiercel this year, same falcon since 2014); both birds in the nest box together; standard process of tiercel 'presenting' the nest to the falcon. @HawkandOwlTrust@ICBPNewent@HawkConservancy@eddrewitt
The ghost of the moor returned to breed on Mar Lodge Estate in 2016 for the first time in living memory. Read about this story and the amazing Sorrel "the traveller" by following this link
