It was a Golden day to be on Boston Common as the MAGoldenMeetups gathered this morning to honor #BostonMarathon Dogs Spencer and Penny.
The group presented a ceremonial check to Spencer's human Rich Powers for a $1,000 donation to the Morris Animal Foundation in their honor.
For many years, Spencer was a watchdog of the Boston Marathon, sitting along the Ashland portion of the 26-mile trek.
Although Spencer and his sister Penny recently passed, Runners will still see Spencer and his sister Penny along the route this April due to this tribute.
Very sad #BostonMarathon news tonight... Spencer the Marathon Dog has passed away. Athletes would frequently pull off the course in the Ashland stretch to give Spencer a pat or hug as he held his "Boston Strong" flag.
Spencer, your spirit and determination inspired us all. We'll miss you, and are proud to call you a friend and forever the Official Dog of the Boston Marathon.💙💛
We are devastated to share that Spencer has passed away after his brave battle with h cancer. He has been inspiration an d a symbol of hope. Thank you Spencer for everything. You are forever in our hearts. #spencerstrong
Spencer has finished chemo and he’s getting ready for the marathon. If he continues doing well and it’s not a hot day he will return to the marathon to cheer the runners. 🤞🤞Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers for this special boy. Spencer continues to be Boston Strong.
@hotfiretees@OnlyInBOS Penny was jumping in when Spencer took a break. With the rolling start there were nit the usual breaks. Their team work face almost full coverage
Felt great to be out cheering on the runners today. Spencer & Penny overcame done obstacles to be there. Best of luck to all the runners at the finish line and beyond. Hope to see you in April #BostonMarathon2021
@RoctexterNY @ItsRachelHolt@wbz The Leash works perfectly but they don’t pull at all. Penny’s pretty much attached to Spencer’s hip. She loves him so much. He can’t walk across the room without her following lol
The last 2 years We have all been through some challenges. We almost lost our Spencer last year and thought he would never be able to cheer the Boston marathon again. Miracles do happen and he is with us today. It has been a long wait but Spencer is ready to see you all again
