We're buzzing with excitement for the first episode in a three-part series of @judaismunbound, which features our Chief Talent Officer Jenny Camhi and Director of Communications and Strategy Jessica Kort. In this episode, they discuss Leichtag Commons, Hive programs, and more!
Machane Yehuda, or the "Shuk" in Jerusalem, is known to be a destination for all visitors. It's hailed for its thriving culinary scene and nightlife, particularly on Thursdays. But on Fridays, it is buzzing for pre-Shabbat shopping until afternoon hits.
We're honored that this exhibit will be displayed in a different part of the region so that more community members will get to experience the stories of our San Diego Jewish community.
In 2019, The Hive showcased our growing San Diego Jewish community through the "This is San Diego Jewry" photo exhibit. The exhibit has gone on the road to the @JewishSanDiego, who hosted a grand opening at their office!
A lesson from the #Passover holiday and the story of Exodus includes deciding what we want to bring along with us on our journeys toward the future. Our Events and Data Manager, Michelle, offers an embodied Passover practice to symbolize this theme.
For readers who may not know: During Passover, we will have rid our homes of grains that can become leavened, like wheat, to symbolize how the Israelites fled so quickly their bread did not have time to rise. The unleavened result, matzah, becomes our bread for the week!
Passover (Pesach) begins tonight at sundown, the holiday that commemorates the Israelites' journey out of Egypt to freedom. Hey #JewishTwitter, here is an idea for a Passover dish - Cauliflower Schnitzel with matzo meal. Chag Pesach Sameach! #HappyPassover
#DidYouKnow that women make up a majority of the nonprofit workforce? This population comprises over 75% of nonprofit staff, while only 30% of women occupy leadership roles. Many Hive member organizations are diverse with women leading their work, particularly women of color.
We're reminded of her strength of "WOO" or "Winning Others Over," which inspires our approach to creating accessible cultural celebrations for our Jewish community and those interested in Jewish culture. Her spirit continues to woo us, and we strive to honor her legacy every day.
Tomorrow we remember Naomi Friedman Rabkin, of blessed memory, on the fourth anniversary of her passing. Naomi was a crucial component and a fierce leader of The Hive team since we were known as the North County Jewish Hub.
As Director of Programs, Naomi created exciting experiences at Leichtag Commons - such as the first Sukkot festival on the property and an evening with Rachel Bloom. She even envisioned programs we've hosted since her passing, like the Jewish Futures Conference.
We also discussed how we can uplift Black experiences and voices.
We finished the evening welcoming in the new week with the Havdalah ritual and sang some fun songs about community, including "We're All in This Together" from High School.
We had such a great time collaborating with @coastalrootsca on Saturday for their Havdalah program.
We screened the short film,"Blewish," which celebrates the Black/Jewish identity, and facilitated a conversation about creating a more inclusive Jewish community.
Join us with our esteemed guests, Arya Marvazy and Empress Mizrahi, as we discover how to apply Purim's themes to ourselves over this special three-course meal. We invite attendees to wear attire reflecting the theme "Come as your true self!"
