Epistles - letters written by early church leaders to guide and instruct believers

Never said that. The Gospels are the books that are a chronological story of Jesus Christ.

Epistles are the letters from the Apostles passing down the teachings to the next generation. They addressed theological instructions and guidance.

The Pauline Epistles were to answer theological questions and address church leadership written to specific people.

The General Epistles were to all Christians in how to live under the Romans, guarding against heresy, and how to live.
