A concrete road shouldn’t be a luxury. Electricity shouldn’t be a luxury. Clean water shouldn’t be a luxury. Proper drainage and access to healthcare shouldn’t be luxury.

These should be the bare minimum standard of a decent community, not the reason someone has to convince you to buy a house there.

This is just my opinion, but I think a lot of people have misunderstood the relationship between Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo over the years.
When Cristiano first arrived on the big stage, Thierry Henry had already established himself as one of the greatest players in the world. He was already competing with legends like Ronaldo Nazário, Zinedine Zidane, and others for the title of the world’s best player. At that point, Cristiano was just a skinny teenager with tricks, pace, and potential.
Because of that, I don’t think Henry ever truly saw Cristiano as someone who would eventually become his equal, let alone surpass almost everyone from that generation. Whether it was intentional or not, some of Henry’s comments over the years have always come across as dismissive of Cristiano’s achievements.
Now here’s where Cristiano Ronaldo is different from almost every footballer in history.
Most people lose confidence when they’re doubted. Most people slow down when they’re criticized. Cristiano Ronaldo does the exact opposite. He feeds off it.
The moment he feels someone has written him off, underestimated him, or questioned his ability, he seems to unlock another level. He doesn’t spend weeks arguing with people. He answers in the only way that matters to him by performing on the pitch.
That’s why I believe so many people misunderstand his mentality. Some call it arrogance. Others call it ego. I call it one of the greatest competitive mindsets sport has ever seen.
Think about some of the names that have criticized him over the years: Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney, Jamie Carragher, Antonio Cassano, and even some former teammates and pundits. Yet Cristiano’s career has continued to speak for itself through goals, trophies, individual awards, and performances on the biggest stages.
Whether it was scoring decisive goals against elite clubs, breaking records in the Champions League, helping Portugal win major international trophies, or continuing to perform at the highest level well into his late 30s, his response has always been football not excuses. That’s why I don’t think his drive comes from simply wanting to be the best. I think it comes from wanting to prove people wrong every single time they doubt him.
If you take that motivation away from Cristiano, you probably don’t get the player we know today. Some people are motivated by praise. Cristiano has always looked even more motivated by criticism.
You don’t have to like Cristiano Ronaldo. You don’t even have to believe he’s the greatest footballer ever. But it’s hard to deny the mentality he’s displayed for over two decades. His discipline. His obsession with improving. His consistency. His ability to handle pressure. His refusal to let criticism define him. Those are qualities that apply far beyond football. That’s why, in my opinion, Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn’t just be remembered as one of the greatest footballers of all time. His mindset should be studied in schools, football academies, churches, mosques, and anywhere people are taught about discipline, resilience, ambition, and the power of turning doubt into motivation.
That’s the real legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo.
