As someone who struggles with CPTSD I wanna speak more on it a little. And this may contain triggering topics of all kind so read with caution please.
CPTSD is caused by a constant exposure to trauma from childhood into adulthood. It’s never knowing calm or a safe place. When you go to school and get bullied by students and the teachers give you a hard time cuz your depressed and work won’t get done to then go home to family who yells at you and each other. It’s waking up to a fight between parents to see one physically hurting the other. It’s looking for affection in the wrong places only to trust to much and wake up to a part of you stolen from you. It’s going home to not feel safe enough to tell people. It’s going to school and being labeled something else when you’re a victim.
Then it’s going into adulthood never having a childhood and not knowing how to socialize or if people who you think you can trust are actually trustworthy because you’ve never had an example of safe in your life. It’s adulthood self destruction because you over think or attempt to protect from more pain and it’s no one’s job but yours to fix that. Therapy can help but sometimes even if the mind can recover the body cannot.
Clinical studies have shown connections from CPTSD to chronic illnesses such as POTS, fibromyalgia, and autoimmune disorders like lupus. When a person goes through prolonged trauma it completely fries the body's master stress-control dashboard, triggering a vicious domino effect across the nervous and immune systems.
It’s not just mental it’s physical and can be completely debilitating. If someone you know struggles with CPTSD it’s never your job to fix them but if you truly love them please do what you can to assure them they can trust you and they are safe with you. And remember illness isn’t the only consequence of living a life of trauma. Some people chose safety the only way they no how and it’s never a route anyone wants them to go.
Please always spread love and support to those around you because you never know what they have/do live through💖
