Imagine an America that would resolve conflicts with methods other than genocidal coups & bombing campaigns, that produced a culture that isn't satanic and anti-life, an America where anyone from anywhere could visit Washington D.C. and think "I want to live like this", etc
Your objective is X.
Your population does not want X, but some of them want Y & some of them what Z.
If you can frame X as the compromise between Y & Z, rather than on it's own merits, then you can get X whilst pretending not to.

@OGRolandRat@AaronBastani Just sad that our unions are now so feckless. From worshipping the immigrant to chiseling old British firms into the uncompetitive abyss while disregarding the new players who abuse the British worker with impunity.
The 'tracksuit class' is more intuitive than the 'precariat' or even the 'working class'. Everyone in Britain understands the former but not so much the latter two terms.
