#India: We are concerned by reports of mass detentions of demonstrators, protest leaders, members of civil society organisations, lawyers and journalists, before and during today’s large-scale demonstrations in Delhi.
We call on the authorities to ensure that the right to peaceful assembly is fully respected and fulfilled.

🇮🇳 Indian police boarded a passenger plane in Delhi to arrest Abhijeet Dipke, leader of the anti-government “Cockroach” movement, before he could attend a protest.
The youth-driven movement, which emerged from frustration over unemployment and exam scandals, was planning to demonstrate against alleged electoral irregularities, demanding the resignation of India's chief election commissioner.
But, of course, this is India, where criticising the government is always an extremely arrestable offence.
