My #1 piece of Instagram advice right now: Make the same content as always but do *juuust* enough to turn it into a Reel.
Usually post beautiful photos of nature? Frame the same but record 5 seconds of video with the grass blowing a bit. That’s it. That’s the reel!
It works 💫
Imagine you searched for ‘linen cushions’ and google just showed you videos of dancing celery in return - because their data says you’ll spend longer looking at dancing celery, which they can count as ‘growth’.
That’s pretty much how Instagram wants the home feed to work 🙃
(Also, I’m being cynical. Please keep sharing your story on Instagram in whatever format suits you best. We will adapt. We’ll find news ways. As humans, we’re very good at this!)
You can have some impact by clicking the three dots top right on any of this content & selecting “show less of this”.
To see just content from people you follow you need to tap the Instagram logo then “following”. You need to do it each time you go into the app, though.
So many makers and artists I talk to are convinced their work doesn’t have real value as it doesn’t ‘help’ people.
Which is NEVER true!
In what ways does beautiful art/jewellery/craft help make your life better? Let’s collect up all the reasons in a thread!
Selling your work is NOT you tricking or forcing people to buy things they don’t really want.
It’s just telling people about what you made/do, and letting them know they can buy it if they want!
It’s not a bad thing! ❤️
Feelings are the fuel for everything we do. If you’ve lost your love for Instagram & social media and are finding it hard to show up, I’m here to help you get unstuck and reconnect.

Not a huge fan of the new Instagram timeline/caption fold update.
It makes any content viewed full screen feel curiously transitory, like you’re just briefly checking in.
Interested to see how this impacts on the number of people reading longer captions amongst other things!
Twitter creative brains - I’m stuck on a name for my Substack! @Farrah_Storr advised it should be broad enough to house all my topics - so, French house, creative business, photography, etc.
I like the idea of it involving ‘journal’ or similar. It could be in french??
Pls help!
