@DavidFeketeHun @america Actually there is a carve out for children of diplomats. They are not automatic citizens. They can easily obtain a green card and be naturalized but then couldn't run for president. It's the same as someone being born elsewhere, becoming a citizen and running for anything else.

I appreciate that you made an actual argument unlike some others here. So shouts outs to you. First thought, is this a Hasan Piker dig? 😅 but seriously, I get the feeling around some of the specifics of the edge cases but I think a hard line of being born here to be a citizen full stop must be established. What one does with that privilege afterwards is up to them. It's part of the freedoms that this country grants and I wouldnt have it any other way.

@america Why was this even close. Birthright citizenship is the most basic of rights. Without it, no one could be a citizen because if you go back far enough to this country's founding, everyone's parents would have been an immigrant unless they were Native Americans.
