It's ok to test drive a counselor just like you test drive a car.
You are never under any obligation to commit to something or someone that doesn't settle well with you.
All counselors are different.
Each has their own theoretical orientation and approach to counseling.
What works for your neighbor may not work for you.
It is common for people to think of wellness as the absence of illness.
However, wellness is a holistic concept that refers to a person's overall state of being.
This includes a person's physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual health.
You are more than "just a body"
A reminder:
Your anxiety is not a sin.
Your depression is not a sin.
Your PTSD is not a sin.
What is sinful is when someone adds to your trauma by telling you that your anxiety, depression, and/or PTSD reveals a lack of faith in God.
But no matter how hard you try.... You can't escape "you".
... and if your "you" needs healing, it's best to take the time to heal it.

Perhaps you might try to numb your pain by finding something to do.
β’ β£You might throw yourself into a project.
β’ You might find a cause to fight for.
β’ You might find a substance to use.
β’ You might try to move to a new city.
Have you ever found yourself in a state of emotional and physiological activation and you are clueless as to how you got there?
Perhaps you felt:
β’ β£an urge to run away.
β’ an inability to sit still.
β’ annoyed by everything around you.
So....
β’ β£Before you start judging yourself.
β’ Before you start allowing negative thoughts to live inside your head.
β’ Before you create a limiting narrative of your life.
... take a moment to recognize that your body is aware of much more than your mind can conceive.
