I have spent about 5 years in Backend Engineering and some lessons I have learnt in no other.
1. Your resources are finite. When designing an API or whatever service, remember even a 1TB storage is still finite so as a backend engineer you have to think of resource constraint and this is where fundamental understanding of the tools and technologies you work with comes into play.
2. Still talking about resource constraint, are you loading large chunks of data into memory at once or streaming data back to your server, this is where the concepts of generators come into play, streaming data makes things a bit lighter on your server.
3. Plan for scale even when traffic is low, don't just write anyhow code. I remember an incident in a Fintech company I worked with where we had just hundreds of users, until the founders did like an interview on a Frecnh language TV which had a wide audience. Due to that interview, traffic spiked overnight. The systems held up until one of the k8s nodes went down ๐คฃ๐คฃ, and some critical services disappeared. The DevOps engineer was under presure. I still don't know how he recovered it overnight, but that incident taught me the value of building for sudden growth.
4. Never trust your users, I remember an incident when someone carried out verification farming through our users service, at first things were normal until Twilio bills began to increase and that's when we realised someone, somehow found out how to exploit our OTP feature, I never even knew such a thing existed until that day, well it further etched the idea "Do not trust your users".
5. Having an idea of some fundamental algorithms actually helps!
6. Pick the right database for the job and understand their strengths and weakness.
7. Offload somethings to the DB if possible, for example instead of doing individual lookups on different tables, and then comparing and doing extra logic processing on the server why not just do one JOIN and have one trip to the database?
8. Language also matters, some languages shine for certain use cases, knowing which to use would save some stress along the way.
This is what comes to mind now, if you are just beginning your journey in backend, you might find this useful.
Read within the context of that story, Galatians 2:11-13.
The Gospel tells we are one in Christ wheter Jew or Greek, this is what Paul has been preaching to gentiles.
Peter ate with the gentiles until other Jews came who still held the belief you are to be circumcised.
Now because of Peter's action, it began to affect the church that Paul has been raising, even Barnabas was affected by this.
So Paul stood against his action, not his apostleship or authority.
Recall in the earlier verses, Paul recognised Peter in the regard he deserves.
So Paul was not criticising Peter, but rather he was against the action of Peter because it began affecting the church.
But in our day today, some ignorant believers who don't understand spiritual authority openly lambast Pastors and then this gives unbelievers the power to do so.
But you would never see people of different faith/religion do so.
Any believer in Christ who drags pastors is void of knowledge.
Again, this your comment shows you are void of certain knowledge and that's not good,
Even Jesus mentioned a house divided against itself cannot stand, you would never see people practicing other religion/faith drag their Spiritual Authorities except ignorant believers.
Well, have a good day.
If you call yourself a believer and you are talking like this, then its because there's a light that you don't have yet.
If you do read your bible, then you would see that God places priority on his Prophets/men of God.
If they do something wrong, it is God they answer to not man and God detests dishonour for the anointed, ask Miriam (Moses sister), read through other portions of scripture.
Again this your comment proves there is a certain light you don't have.
Isaiah 8:20-22 (NLT):
20: Look to Godโs instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
21: They will go from one place to another, weary and hungry. And because they are hungry, they will rage and curse their king and their God. They will look up to heaven
22: and down at the earth, but wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and dark despair. They will be thrown out into the darkness.
I agree with your POV on this. But my argument is that ministers/prophets should not be under any pressure to talk. I believe there are men who truly follow God and if God speaks to them to pass a message they will say it.
Pastors should not come out and say things simply because the nation is watching. This is what you call fear of men and no minister is under any obligation to prove a point to anyone.
The answer to everything we are facing is the Gospel. Imagine a Nigeria, where everyone is born again and filled the Holy Ghost, things would be way better.
And unbelievers who don't believe in Jesus can open their mouths to demand things from a God they don't serve. That will not fly.
@Jeshua38977@lekan_olayinka1 No believer/pastor should be under any pressure to prove anything to a bunch of people who have not accepted Jesus.
So sir, don't think you have to defend anything. Let them believe/say what they want.
Sharia will not come anywhere. All these things happening in the country was already prophesied. Right now man is just fulfilling the scriptures.
Sharia is not coming anywhere.
This is what the Lord has said: Isaiah 54:15-16 (TLB)
15: If any nation comes to fight you, it will not be sent by me to punish you. Therefore, it will be routed, for I am on your side.
16ย I have created the smith who blows the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of destruction. And I have created the armies that destroy.
17ย But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you shall succeed.
Both the people that stir up trouble and the people that carry out evil. No one is above God.
Okay sir/ma. Just read your bible and see, kings/kingdoms don't just rise without a change in the heavelies. Read Daniel 10 for yourself and see how Persia was removed and Greece came into power.
Nations don't turn unless something is done in regards to the spirit realm. Why do you think we hear stories of Politicians dabbling in rituals? You think they are stupid?
PVC alone CANNOT deliver the results. Its by faith in Jesus that we can subdue kingdoms.
lol, okay sir. If you call yourself a believer and you really think its PVC that will deliver the result then it shows you're lacking knowledge in some areas as regards the Bible. But let me help a bit,
Read Daniel 10, Isaiah 7 and 8. Or just read the Prophets, you would see where Kings rise and fall also has its root to the spiritual realm. Its only our Faith which has overcome the world that we can use to wage war to effect changes in our realm.
But most believers don't know this and we go around shouting PVC, since I have been in Nigeria; this has usually been the case regarding elections. We got PVC last time, did the outcome change?
But I leave you here, just take time to study history and read the Bible then you would understand that PVC alone cannot deliver the results.
Read Daniel 10 and you would see that to Kings that come into power don't just come in like that unless the Prince over that territory is removed. You think our leaders don't know what's better given they have traveled far and wide and even enjoy how other countries function. But they can't replicate within Nigeria. Study Daniel 10, it would give you a glimpse behind what really goes on.
And so Christians need to come to the true Revelation of Jesus, the Gospel is the only thing that can help us.
But if you have people who call themselves believers negate the bible then sometimes can't and won't just happen.
@blossomken32@AdaEhiMoses If you call yourself a believer/Christian and you are saying this. Then I am sorry for you, you are obviously void of Bible Knowledge.
@RichesAutos@lekan_olayinka1 No, I wonโt. People who call themselves believers need to stop spouting nonsense on social media and giving unbelievers a reason to take jabs at us.
They don't owe you or anyone anything. Luke 13:1-5; People came to meet Jesus to tell him what Pilate did. As horrific as what Pilate did, what was Jesus' response to them? Or when the walls of Siloam fell, what was Jesus' response?
Pastors don't owe you/anyone any explanation Bro.
And no minister should be under pressure to speak for fear of men. That's nonsense.
The church is not another arm of the government. The Church is the ground and Pillar of Truth!
Around 40 children are in the forest, and none of our prophets have spoken.
Again, I am sorry, I am directing this whole thing to the church again.
My Bible taught me that deliverance comes from the Lord.
He is the shield of the earth, the psalmist says.
So, where are our prophets?
Again, I am asking because God bears me witness, all my adult life I have seen our prophets and ministers make all possible boasts.
Boasts about being having a voice, influence, access to kings and encounters.
As the Lord then not spoken?
I am saying whether it is a prediction, exhortation, or comfort; please, let our prophets give us anyone of them.
But God is on the throne, and He will glorify Himself over this nation.
Amen.
