My coworker finally quit today, and the way he did it was pure chess. For months, our manager was "quietly promoting" him stacking on extra responsibilities, making him lead client pitches, and dropping hints about a "massive adjustment" during review season.
When review season came, the manager gave him a 2% raise and a speech about "tough quarters for the company."
My coworker didn’t argue. He didn’t complain. He just smiled, thanked him, and went back to his desk.
