Joy in activism is particularly compelling to me as it’s the only way I know how to do it. Here’s a reel of my recent Fundamental Right Zine. Cheers to @StrictScrutiny_ and @LeahLitman for naming the #yolocourt, which I illustrated 😄
Today, I’m launching a deeply personal project. I’m betting $100M that we can help computer scientists create more upside impact for humanity.
Built for and by researchers, including @JeffDean & @jpineau1 on the board, @LaudeInstitute catalyzes research with real-world impact.
I've been fielding a bunch of questions about Judge O'Connor's decision on the preventive services mandate and, for the very curious, I'll answer a few of them here.
First, when does the decision take effect?
As expected, Judge O'Connor has struck down the Affordable Care Act's preventive services mandate. His decision applies nationwide. Reviewing the decision now; will highlight key portions as I read. /1 https://t.co/fhFreLOY8B
I’ve also been inspired by all those using Gavel to build legal products that work for them or to simplify their document creation process. We talk a lot about how slow to change the legal industry is, but that is clearly not everyone out there! It’s very cool to see. 🎉
This is a bit belated, but in December I made a switch and joined @Gavel_io ! It’s been great fun so far and really inspiring to see how much has been/continues to be created by a small but super dedicated team.
Thank you @law360 and @Steven_Lerner for covering our rebrand to Gavel, as we continue to help legal professionals turn their legal services into legal products through powerful document automation, data collection, and attorney-client portals.
Big news! Documate has rebranded as @Gavel_io, as we continue to expand the platform to enable the delivery of online legal services. We're excited to have added @PierreMartin_7 as our CTO, who is helping us build the future of our powerful technology.
Documate rebrands as Gavel as it continues to expand beyond document automation into serving as a platform for building online legal products. CEO @dorna_moini says online delivery of services is the future of legal. @DocumateLaw#legaltech https://t.co/HdwVnwKVuO
Will examples of "bad AI lawyers" / "robo lawyers" be used primarily to distract the legal profession from thinking more creatively about how we might deploy tech to scale access to legal help?
Yes, some people who go to law school would like to practice in the public interest.
But instead, they end up going into corporate law because they have big loans to pay or other financial obligations.
What I see and hear from students more often is not this, however.
Instead of worrying about whether AI is going to put us lawyers out of business (law is a business!),
why aren't we curious about how AI can help us help the millions of people that we currently do not help?
Are legal help websites making a difference?
The People's Law School in BC has been gathering data to measure impact thru short questions on their site and feeding it into a data dashboard #lscitcon23
