And it just so happens this shakeup comes as CBS News’ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, has turned the legendary newsmagazine into a lightning rod for controversy.

Coincidence? Please.

Cooper, who’s been with 60 Minutes since the 2006–2007 season and racked up multiple Emmy wins along the way, will finish out the current season. But sources say he told CBS weeks ago he wanted out. Officially, he’s focusing on CNN and family time. Unofficially? The timing speaks volumes.

Since Weiss’s takeover, 60 Minutes has been mired in MAGA-adjacent drama. In December, she spiked a report on CECOT — the notorious El Salvador prison where the Trump administration sent migrants without due process. The piece had already been promoted by CBS before Weiss yanked it at the last minute. She later claimed it “wasn’t ready.”

Sure.

Then came reports that a Cooper segment scrutinizing Trump’s decision to accept white South African refugees was subjected to “abnormal” levels of editorial scrutiny. Veteran producers were reportedly “exasperated” by the edits.

This isn’t subtle.

For decades, 60 Minutes has been a gold standard of hard-hitting journalism. Now, under leadership widely described as “MAGA-coded,” stories critical of Trump are suddenly getting spiked, sliced, or slow-walked.

And one of its biggest stars is heading for the door.

Cooper’s departure marks the first major on-air exit since Weiss took control. That’s not just a personnel change — it’s a flashing red warning light.

When award-winning journalists with long histories at a network start leaving just as political interference accusations swirl, Americans should pay attention.

If CBS wants to reassure viewers that 60 Minutes remains independent and fearless, losing Anderson Cooper is one strange way to show it.

The disastrous meeting has drawn widespread condemnation and marks an undeniable low point in America's global reputation. Trump and Vance have stabbed our ally squarely in the back.

"You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards," Trump raged during the meeting. "You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people, you’re gambling with World War III… and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country, that’s backed you far more than a lot of people said they should have."

Vance repeatedly whined that Zelensky had not said "thank you once" to Trump and repeatedly showed off for his boss in the most groveling manner.

"Please, you think that if you will speak very loudly about the war…" Zelensky said to Vance at one point.

"He’s not speaking loudly, your country’s in big trouble," Trump interjected. "You’re not winning this. You’re not winning this. You have a damn good chance of coming out okay because of us."

"If you didn’t have our military equipment, this war would have been over in two weeks," Trump said at another point in his tirade. "It’s going to be a very hard thing to do business like this.”

"Just say thank you. We know you’re wrong," Vance said.

"The problem is I've empowered you to be a tough guy," said Trump. "And I don't think you'd be a tough guy without the United States."

"Your people are very brave but, you're either going to make a deal or we're out," he went on. "And if we're out, you'll fight it out — I don't think it's going to be pretty — but you'll fight it out. But you don't have the cards but once we sign that deal, you're in a much better position."

"But you're not acting at all thankful and that's not a nice thing. I'll be honest, that's not a nice thing. All right, I think we've seen enough, what do you think?" he concluded.
