Captain Ruth Adeola Adebanwo, Chief Pilot of Ibom Air, has reportedly become the first Nigerian woman to fly a brand-new aircraft into Nigeria.

She piloted Ibom Air’s brand-new Airbus A220-300 from Mirabel, Canada, to Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on September 1, 2026.

From starting her aviation career as cabin crew to becoming a Chief Pilot and now making history.

Together, they played key roles in bringing Econet into Nigeria’s GSM market in 2001.

Masiyiwa brought the vision; Balogun helped build it in Nigeria.

RCCG CELEBRATES PASTOR E.A. AND PASTOR (MRS.) FOLU ADEBOYE ON THEIR 59TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide gives thanks to Almighty God as our General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, and our Mother-in-Israel, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adenike Adeboye, celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary.

For nearly six decades, their marriage has been a testimony of God’s faithfulness and an enduring example of love, friendship, prayer, sacrifice, mutual honour and commitment to God.

From their beginnings as a young couple in 1967 through decades of family life and global ministry, Daddy and Mummy G.O. have demonstrated that a marriage surrendered to Christ can become a blessing far beyond the home- strengthening families, the Church and generations.

We especially celebrate their remarkable partnership in ministry. Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye has stood faithfully alongside our General Overseer while building an impactful ministry of her own in Christian education, missions, humanitarian service and care for women, children and vulnerable communities.

Their 59-year journey offers a timely message in a world where marriage and family face growing pressures: strong marriages matter. Strong families matter. And marriages anchored in God can endure, flourish and become instruments of generational blessing.

Today, the RCCG family across the nations joins their children, grandchildren and the global Body of Christ in celebrating this remarkable milestone.

We pray that the Lord who has sustained Daddy and Mummy G.O. will continue to preserve them in strength and good health, renew their joy, deepen their companionship and cause their latter years to be even more glorious.

8th September 1967: Brother Enoch Adejare Adeboye weds Sister Foluke Adeyokunnu. Pastor E. A. Adeboye is the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

8th September 1866: Charles Harrison Mason Snr. is born in Detroit, Michigan, United States. He was the Founder and First Bishop of the Church of God in Christ.

8th September 1956:  Francis Wale Oke is born. He is the Founder and presiding Bishop of  Sword of The Spirit Ministries International with its Headquarters located in Ibadan City, Oyo State and current President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

8th September 1984: Brother Felix Adejumo weds Sister Itunu Olufunke. Bishops Felix Adejumo and Funke Felix-Adejumo are both Founders of Agape Christian Ministries.

8th September 1907: Pope Pius X announces that Modernism is heresy. Three years later, he went on to introduce an oath against Modernism, requiring all Catholic clergy to swear an oath rejecting Modernist tenets.

I joined a church of England a prayer meeting beside my apartment at Darlaston 🇬🇧.

8 senior citizens (6 British, 1 Latino, 1 Austrian) and below are the prayer points:

- Thank God for summer that brightened our trees and blossomed the flowers that daily beautifies our sight. 😳 Do we even remember to thank God for rain or harmattan? (The NEXT ONE OFF ME)

- Prayers for plastic recyclers who strive to preserve God’s earth and the ecosystem 🤣 Like are you guys kidding?

- Prayer for the council cleaners who pack the excessive leaves and flowers falling off trees in summer, cause they now have more work to do….😳 Omo do we even remember those sweepers on the highway?

- Prayers for peacemakers and negotiators around conflict zones around the world……Like play - Like play 1 Hour was done.

I smiled all through the prayers - guess you already know why..As a preacher/revivalist from Nigeria?

More than three decades ago, in the dark days of military dictatorship, a group of us came together around a simple conviction that Nigerians deserved access to the truth and a voice in the struggle for democracy.

What began as Radio Freedom later became Radio Kudirat, named in honour of the courageous Alhaja Kudirat Abiola after her assassination in 1996. From exile, alongside Professor Wole Soyinka and many other committed colleagues, we built a clandestine broadcasting operation that carried independent news and the message of resistance into homes across Nigeria. The risks were considerable, but so was our determination to see democratic rule restored.

I recently revisited that period with Ọrẹ Ogunbiyi for @TheEconomist’s Weekend Intelligence. The programme brings together some of those who made Radio Kudirat possible and tells a story that, in many respects, has remained largely untold.

Thirty years on, the struggle also reminds us that democracy requires constant renewal. The return to civilian rule was an important victory, but the aspirations that animated our movement, accountable government, constitutional reform, social justice and genuine citizenship, remain work in progress.
