What’s the funniest thing you’ve gotten scolded for in a 1:1 at work? “Please stop saying ‘That’s why they pay me the medium bucks’ every time someone says “Thank you” it’s making people uncomfortable” comes to mind for me
Everybody know not to ask me to take *extensive* time off my job for some silly shit because the answer is no. You know how many continuity documents I have to prepare/leave for alllll of my work to continue and for everyone to survive? 🥴
Only way I’m taking 10 days off for a vacation is if it’s my wedding/honeymoon lol. Unfortunately, TheMan™️ has me in more of a chokehold than I’d like to admit. I gotta go to work sis 😂
Mannn. Omg. The contempt and elitism lots of technical ppl show toward non-technical ppl is wild. It’s sad bc we literally cannot do what we do without one another. You even see the contempt bubble up across neighboring technical functions
Observation #2: There exists an implicit class system in tech that distinguishes between technical and non-technical people. At its worst, folks from one class will see themselves as more valuable or important than folks in the other class, leading to controversy and schisms where none need to exist. Tech needs its builders, yes. But it also needs marketers, lawyers, and project managers too. And one is not more intelligent than the other.
Takeaway #2: Those of us who make content on this platform should proactively foster respect, camaraderie, and appreciation for those who are technical and non-technical in tech and for the work that they do.
Being Black in tech is difficult enough without creating new categories of self-segregation.
And if we aim to increase the representation of Black folks and other under-supported groups in tech, we should be OK with seeing them navigate into whatever area resonates with them, whether technical or non-technical.
