@oregonfootball I just landed a jersey from your surplus sale, was wondering if you knew who it was used by?
Oregon on the nameplate, #20, size 38, length -2.
It’s from 2020
@pk500@SInow @eurosport All of your points, made as an American with broad awareness of American sports, are coloured by your lived experience. My counter is that, as a European with broad awareness of European norms, he’s not so relevant here, especially with endurance racing fans.
@pk500@SInow @eurosport Of course people know of him, my point is that the cross-section of people outside of the USA who care about both the NBA & Le Mans is very small.
Sport in the USA is specialist, in that you have your own sports which, whilst played elsewhere, are somewhat niche. 1/2
@patrickadawson2@Justic3foraII@autosport I’d pick a different hill to die on buddy. Le Mans is a race of traditions like the Indy 500, and both should be respected. If the rules for Indy were suddenly changed to encourage European teams in then I’m sure you’d be upset.
@landoncassill@jason_in_texas_ This is an the entry level open wheel formula for 15 year olds. When I raced at an equal level it was $200k/year. Now it’s $500k+ & things like this are the reason why.
@landoncassill@jason_in_texas_ The air filter on our car is $25 shipped from an online seller , but it’s almost $300 from the series mandatory supplier. They repackage it, but otherwise it’s identical. No additional markings from the supplier, just 12x the price. 2/3
@landoncassill@jason_in_texas_ The problem with spec parts, & I run a team in F4 that has this, is that we end up with mandatory suppliers who inflate prices. 1/3
@pk500@SInow @eurosport Ah well I guess that shows me… Oh wait, it doesn’t. As a European who loves American sports & has also worked in pro motorsport for ~20 years, I can say without a doubt that Lebron has almost no relevance to the audience here. Famous as he is, he doesn’t matter at Le Mans.
@josiibricks That’s a worryingly low bar my guy, it races in a class of 1 & qualified 39th of 62 overall.
To say it’s one of the fastest is disingenuous, & to even be above average it would need to be in the top 31.
@KurohimeFox@SNoodle_JuJu Not a true cup car, & completely unrestricted in terms of development vs a strictly controlled & BOP equalised class.
Is it faster than a GTE? Yes.
Is this surprising/worthy of comparison? No.
Is this a triumph of American engineering over Europeans? Categorically not.
Those bemoaning the Americanisation of Le Mans both on track and off are spot on. Unsurprisingly many Americans on here don’t get it, but Lebron’s unenthusiastic waving of the tricolore is the perfect visual for what is going on.
