3 things elite athletes do with their CUES that the rest don’t.
1) Know the science behind their cues. (Why the cue helps their performance)
2) Know how to personalize their cues in a way they can understand/ execute.
3) Execute their cues faster. (Muscle memory)
Fear can not be diminished or simply "stopped".
Fear is only replaced. When we focus on the tasks at hand, we lose ourselves in a state of flow and fear is replaced with a present-focus mind-set.

Visualization of performance outside of practice and competition is a useful tool.
However, over-use of visualization can deteriorate the ability to have a present mind.
Have one, 5-10 min visualization session per day. Devote the rest of the day to the present moment.
Neuropsychologists found that when your brain expects something to happen, it works to achieve it at a subconscious level. Your expectation creates it.
Napoleon Hill once interviewed the devil. The devil spends his days ensuring we are miserable like him. He wants us to never reach the elite level of performance. He ensures this by making us afraid of risks.
Outwit the devil. Dare a little more. Be elite.

There is a phenomenon of elite high school athletes sinking to mediocrity in college.
Much of this is due to expectations outside of their control.
Coaches, don’t thrust grandiose expectations of greatness on new athletes. The expectation needs to be small, daily growth.
A hard part of coaching is telling athletes that their goals are too grandoise.
Explain to your athletes that you have great confidence in them. However, goals that lightly stretch the athletes help them avoid burnout and produce better results.
What MOST people think “better” means:
•more talent
•more effort
•no mistakes
•perfection
What better ACTUALLY means:
•better focus
•quality reps
•learning from mistakes
•progress not perfection
People who are scared of risks are NOT elite performers.
Some of those same people are only in their comfort zone when those around them don’t take risks either. They may try to persuade to avoid risks.
Get away from those people. Put yourself in a #GrowthMindset environment.
Learning a language can’t be done by dwelling on which date you want to be fluent by.
Learning a language is done with a present focus- slowly learning small grammar and vocab.
One day, you will suddenly know the language.
Present Focus = Growth
The same is true with sports.
Hard workout coming your way?
No matter how you choose to take on this workout, you ultimately have to face 1 of 2 battles.
1- The battle of a hard workout today.
2- The battle of being underprepared for the future.
The choice is yours.
The Elites go to bed excited to go to practice/work the next day.
Passion for what you do is prerequisite for long-term elite performance.
Pursue your passion.
The Elites have a keen ability to patient yet decisive.
For example, they know when to make a quick pass and when not to make a quick pass.
How do the Elites cultivate this talent?
Practice, practice, practice.
"The mind plays tricks on you."
Positive self-talk is one way we can take advantage of these tricks.
For example, in times of difficulty during workouts, vocally saying "I can do this" can actually trick you into feeling better and more determined.
Don’t believe it? Try it.
Stopping bad habits is not achieved by simply undoing the already learned habit.
Stopping bad habits is achieved by learning new, better habits.
