The idea that only Asian cultures have a concept of “face,” where respect needs to be performed to maintain the hierarchy is fundamentally racist. Face is built into ‘western’ culture, it’s just not challenged.
It’s not really a ban on under sixteens using social media, but a ban on them *posting* on social media. So social media is losing a large chunk of its original ideas from the next generation
Like the process of drafting a two page letter to a friend, typing it out than posting it. Retelling the emotions you went through without immediate judgment. But knowing it would be read and receive a thoughtful response.
I was reading by a history book quoting from a key figures letters and thinking about the emotional processing opportunities we are missing because we don’t have the friction and physicality of letter writing.
Watching a children’s television show episodes about the dangers of getting magic to clean your room; and it’s an effective addition to the AI in education debate. I’ve observed the plot line across multiple shows - so it has cultural value and pre-dates the latest AI debate.
The number or people who can’t write well, or would have never written anything down anyway, whose work out put will be improved by 100% from zero shouldn’t be ignored

The longer I am a parent in Australia the more I realise we urgently need to move to a #30hourweek . It’s not us but the social institutions that rely on parent volunteers are crumbling because we can’t fit it all in
