The Midwest Recruiting Resource for Women's Basketball (est. 2009).
This is the hobby of Reggie (math educator/foodie/former HS & college
basketball coach).
Got my tires replaced this morning & then swung by The Diner just north of Mount Pleasant, MI for breakfast. I went with the Meaty Omelette (ham, bacon, sausage, hash browns, onion, green pepper, & cheese in a 4-egg omelette topped with sausage gravy) with American Fries & Rye Toast. The Diner is my Favorite Diner in Michigan & home to my Favorite Friday Night Fish Fry (although I usually get the fish grilled with lemon pepper).
Wrap-Up of the @PGHCircuit (@PrepGirlsHoops ) MI College Tour Session IV at SVSU:
This event was all bracket play. I have included the finishes & records for all of the divisions along with TheMRR All-Tournament Teams for the 2027 & 2028 classes, a partial All-Tournament Team for the 2029 class, & Players of Note for younger players.
These are based on who I saw on courts 1 & 2; I was not able to see all of the teams. These will differ heavily from the Prep Girls Hoops All-Tournament Teams (so check out their website) that are based on the divisions that teams played in but, since there were 15 teams in the 2027 divisions & only 4 teams in the 2028 division, & many of the top 2028s were playing up in the 2027 divisions, I decided to go this route to balance the recognition. However, as @CoachEvanBell & I are always discussing, it is good to see differing opinions. As we try to weigh a players production, skill, hustle, athleticism, potential, size, & variability in performance, evaluators may get pulled in different directions by one or more of these factors when looking at players that are close.
[Which is why I don't get too caught up in rankings. Rankings are fun to agonize over (for us) & fun to view (for fans), but they are ultimately just divertissement. What is really the difference between, say, #11, #12, #13, #14, & #15? If we were to ask 30 different college coaches, they are going to probably rank these 5 players in 15 different orders based on what positions they need in that class, their style of play, their preferences in types of players at each position, etc. Players, run your own race & don't worry about the rankings; celebrate positive recognition of yourself, your teammates, & your friends; but play to your strengths in competition & work to improve your weaknesses behind the scenes.]
Scroll to the end for team finishes & records.

2027 Players:
First team:
Co-Most Impressive 2027--@RyennBecher (6'3" F) of MI Mystics
Becher is a long, athletic forward that is a rim protector defensively & a versatile scorer offensively showing good footwork & great touch with either hand around the rim. She was the only 2027 playing on the MI Mystics 2027 team (along w/ a # of players from their 2028 P24 team) that took the top-level championship.
T'Nay Black (5'10" F) of Toronto Select
Black is a physical driver that attacks the basket aggressively & is aggressive on the boards. While Toronto Select struggled overall, their front-court combination of Black, 6'1" Amberley Ifeh, & 6'2" Tiffany Gentles was a bright spot.
Co-Most Impressive 2027--Cayenne Buchanan (5'9" G) of Kia Nurse Elite
Buchanan is a very athletic, shifty, slasher that used her handles, athleticism, & court awareness to score off the dribble & set up teammates from the PG position for 2027 Gold runner-up Kia Nurse Elite 2027 EYBL.
@LFosmore32 (5'9" W) of HB Elite
Fosmore was outstanding for semifinalist HB Elite 2027, scoring from behind the arc or off the dribble, especially frustrating bigger opponents with her step through.
Savannah Wilson (6'0" C/F) of Kia Nurse Elite
Wilson was a strong, physical interior presence for KNE as she battled for position inside, scored with power moves in the post, moved bodies while attacking the boards, & was strong with the ball in traffic.
Second Team:
@KeiraDawes21 (5'10" W) of MBA The House
@emmafirth10_ (6'0" W) of Kia Nurse Elite
Mackenna Price (5'6" G) of Southwest Elite
@raesmith824 (5'3" G) of MI Mystics
@GracieUrista (5'7" W) of The Naturals
Third Team:
Addison Davis (6'1" F) of Southwest Elite
@avadeakin (5'9" W) of Factory Basketball
Lily Gill (5'6" G) Southwest Elite
@IhoopErica (5'2" G) of MI Lady Playmakers
Elli Strunk (6'0" F) of Lakeside Basketball
HM:
@BrockwayKatelyn (5'4" G) of MI Prospects
Alexis Bryant (5'3" G) of Pride 21 Basketball
Harmony Danforth (5'8" W) of MI Lady Playmakers
@SophiaMator (5'7" W) of MI Prospects
@avaseletsky (5'7" W) of MI Mystics
.
2028 Players:
First Team:
2027 Gold MVP--@Blumberglayla (5'5" G) of MI Mystics
(pictured, #5)
Blumberg was dialed in all day long from 3-pt land, with most of her long distance makes beyond the college arc & many well beyond the college arc. In addition, she was un-phased at the point and just continued to make the right play when KNE attempted to pick up their pressure in the 2nd half of the 2027 Gold championship game.
El'Dior Dobere (5'6" G) of Kia Nurse Elite
Dobere is a speedy high-energy hustler that is a harassing on the ball defender & a shifty PG that is difficult to keep out of the lane offensively as she creates scoring opportunities for herself & teammates. She puts heavy pressure on opponents on both ends of the court.
Macy Donovan (6'0" W) of MI Mystics
(pictured, #3)
It was nice to see that Donovan appears fully healthy. As a 6' wing, she is a mismatch problem for most opposing teams. She can hit the perimeter shot, attack the basket to score smoothly off the drive, or use her length to score around the basket.
Trinity Venn (6'1" W) of Kia Nurse Elite
(pictured, #11)
Venn may have had the most up-side of any perimeter player in this event. As a long, athletic 6'1" wing, she is simply smooth whether gliding to the rim on the break, attacking the basket off the drive, or burying 3s & pull ups with her high release point. Venn should be turning a lot of heads this July playing on KNE's 2027 EYBL team, & could steadily move up recruiting boards as she gets more experience dealing with physical play.
2028 MVP--Zayne Whyte (6'3" F) of Kia Nurse Elite
Like Venn on the outside, Whyte may have had the most up-side of any interior player in this event. She led the KNE 2028 EYBL team to the 2028 championship by controlling the paint on both ends of the court. Whyte blocked shots & cleaned up the boards defensively, & showed great touch around the basket & on her short jumper offensively. She runs the floor well & has good body control to catch & make a move in transition or face up & score off the short drive in the half court.
Second Team:
@emersen_holder (5'3" G) of MI Mystics
@EmmaIngles2028 (6'0" W) of Lakeside Basketball
Adi Johnson (5'8" G) of Kia Nurse Elite
@LeahPoggiolo (5'10" W) of MI Mystics
@Gianna_Sodon (5'11" W) of Kia Nurse Elite
Third Team:
@LillyDay2028 (5'11" W) of Kia Nurse Elite
@MHawkins2028 (6'0" F) of MI Mystics
Amberley Ifeh (6'1" F/C) of Toronto Select
Jane Jordan (5'10" W) of MI Mystics
@Jayla38792643 (5'6" G) of MI Mystics
HM:
Hadleigh Byrd (6'1" F/C) of MBA The House
Ashlyn Hoitenga (5'11" F) of MI Mystics

2029 Players:
[Note: I did not get to see some of the 2029 teams (including 2029 Gold champion Kia Nurse Elite 2029 EYBL & 2029 Silver champion Hype Elite 2029), so those teams are not represented here.]
First Team:
@ReeseAbbott24 (5'9" G) of Lakeside Basketball
Abbott provided constant energy in helping to lead Lakeside to the 2027 Silver championship game. She played tough defense, got after loose balls, hunted down rebounds, pushed the ball up court in transition, scored smoothly off the break/drive, & even hit a couple of 3s when left open.
Zaria Eniojukan (6'0" F) of Kia Nurse Elite
Eniojukan is a versatile inside/outside force for the 2028 champion Kia Nurse Elite 2028 EYBL. She played all 5 positions at different points; she handled the ball well in transition & even initiated the offense against pressure a couple of times, attacked the basket aggressively & played through contact on her way to the rim, faced up to attack the rim from the high post, scored with her back to the basket from the low to mid-post, & even stepped out to hit a 3.
@Audreymiller04 (5'11" F) of MBSA Hoyas
(pictured, #1)
Miller was a shot blocking machine defensively, while also cleaning up the boards & scoring around the basket & off the drive. We were pretty sure that she amassed a triple-double in their opening game Saturday morning & helped lead HBSA Hoyas to a 2029 Silver runner-up finish.
2027 Silver MVP--Zaya Price (5'9" W) of Southwest Elite
Price used 1 of the best verticals in the gym to elevate & score over defenders on her pull up or off the drive & to elevate for rebounds above the crowd on both ends of the court. She showed the ability to score at all 3 levels & to defend multiple positions defensively.
@TRoberts473 (6'3" C/F) of MI Mystics
Roberts works hard for post position; she is an automatic bucket if she catches with both feet in the paint & has good footwork & touch to score with multiple moves when she catches further out. She also has the skills to face up to attack the basket off the drive, but what sticks out the most to me is the way she runs the floor hard to dive to the rim for easy baskets or to establish early post position.

You're not always going to shoot well, make all the right plays, be the best player out there, but you can always play hard and talk. That takes no talent to accomplish and has nothing to do with the opponent. There should never be a moment when college coaches or scouts are sitting there listening to squeaking shoes and basketballs bouncing, feeling like they're in a library. There should never be a day when communication and effort are what limits your potential to play college basketball. If you don't know, attend college basketball practices and games to see what it takes to play college basketball at any level. Communication and consistent effort are non-negotiables.

Late dinner after today's games at O's Pub & Grill in Auburn, MI (between Bay City & Midland just north of M-20) for The "O" Burger (beef patty topped pastrami, pepper jack cheese, fried egg, pickles, horseradish mustard, & maple aioli) with Chips. O's is my go-to place for post-game eats and The "O" Burger is my usual choice.
Afternoon snacking (in lieu of lunch) as I work on preparing rosters for tomorrow. Baked Tortilla Chips (recipe: cut corn tortillas into wedges, brush with olive oil, sprinkle lightly with salt, & bake at 350Β° for 15 minutes) with Queso Blanco & Camembert Cheese with Blackberries. I picked up the queso, cheese, & blackberries on sale earlier this week & had the tortillas leftover from when I made Chilaquiles a while back.
The baked Tortilla Chips are easy to make; & they are healthier than store bought since they aren't fried & you can control the salt factor. [Some of these got a little darker than usual as I lost track of time while working on rosters & they were in about 19 minutes.]
The last stop on the 2026 @PGHCircuit College Tour is @SVSU ! Rosters are up and the schedule is live. Would love to see college coaches there to recruit these prospects. There are players with abilities that translate to every level. Let's go! Excited to have @TheMRR7 on site evaluating this weekend!

Another new recipe: Tonight I made Moqueca (Brazilian Fish Stew--cod, coconut milk, tomato, onion, bell pepper, garlic, lime, cilantro, etc.) with White Rice. I didn't measure when I salted the fish, so it was a bit under-seasoned, but I added some Vegetable Better Than Bouillon & it brought it together nicely into a quite tasty dish.

2029 Teams:
Open Gold:
1st--WI Impact 2029-Brechtl (4-0)

4th--WI Truth 2029 (1-3)
5th--CBA West 2029-Zeck (0-4)
Most Exciting Game of the Tournament:
In a thrilling battle for the Open Gold championship, WI Impact 2029-Brechtl made a late comeback to go up 2 on a 3 by Kayla Brechtl before WI Playground 2029-Johnson scored in the closing seconds (I believe by Destinii Green) to force OT. WI Impact completed the comeback with a 54-51 OT victory.
2029 Players:
MVP--@brechtl_k1123 (5'8" G) of WI Impact
Open Gold champion WI Impact 2029-Brechtl was led by the trio of Veronica Hoell & twins Aly & Kayla Brechtl along with a strong supporting cast. Kayla Brechtl stepped up big with multiple key scores on one end of the court and key defensive plays on the other in the 2nd half and OT of their victory over top contender WI Playground 2029-Johnson to close out an undefeated weekend.
Vice-MVP--@DestiniiGreen (5'9" G) of WI Playground
Destinii Green was a dynamic creator at the point for WI Playground 2029-Johnson. She used her shifty handles to get into the lane with frequency to score or set up teammates, showed great body control to hang & finish or to play through contact, & buried open 3s to keep defenders honest.

Wrap-Up of the @WisImpact Cheesehead Challenge:
I have included the records for the teams in the 5 oldest divisions along with TheMRR All-Tournament teams (including MVPs and Vice-MVPs) for the HS-aged classes and Players of Note for the younger players.
I spent both days watching games on the 2 feature courts downstairs where all of the Open Platinum games, a majority of the Open Gold games, and a number of the 15U Gold, 14U Platinum, and the 14U Gold were played. [Of the teams in the 3 HS age divisions, there were only 2 teams (both 2029 teams) that I did not see, but a number of the top players from 1 of those teams filled in on the program's top 2027 team for their final game. I also saw 9 of the 14 teams in the 14U divisions.]
2027 Teams:
Open Platinum:

1st--1on1 Milwaukee 2027 Pink (0-4)
2027 Players:
MVP--@WinonaStateWBB commit @GraceMitch67126 (5'11" W) of NH 1848
Grace Mitchell led NH 1848 2027 to an undefeated record with an average 12.25ppg margin of victory. Mitchell created mismatches all over the court attacking the basket in transition, burying 3s, slashing to the rim off the drive/cut, & crashing the offensive boards for putbacks. She was also disruptive defensively with her length, athleticism, & anticipation.
Vice-MVP--@CTagliapietra35 (5'8" G) of Chapman
(pictured, #3) Cali Tagliapietra played with high-energy all weekend & put constant pressure on opponents on both ends of the court. Her speed & quickness allowed her to create shots for herself or others, & hit open 3s when defenders gave her space to contain her drive. She harassed ball handlers defensively, seemed to be around every loose ball, & turned defense into offense quickly with her speed. Chapman dropped an 8-pt decision to NH 1848 2027, but pulled out 3 close wins to finish 3-1.

2028 Players:
MVP--@GwennElliott28 (5'11" W) of Chapman
Playing against multiple top 2027 teams in the Open Platinum division, Gwenn Elliott, Mya Mayer, and Brooklyn Luehring all made a case for most valuable player while leading Chapman 2028 to a 3-1 record. But it was Elliott that used her length & athleticism to score at all 3 levels no matter who the defense threw at her, gliding to the basket in transition, hitting 3s consistently, rising up for pull up jumpers over defenders, & getting to the rim to score smoothly off the drive. She also showed versatility defensively whether guarding wings or forwards in the half court, or gathering deflections on the ball or steals away from it in the press/trap.
Vice-MVP--@myalmayer (6'0" F) of Chapman
Mya Mayer was perhaps the most physical finisher in the whole event, doing a great job of using her body to shield off defenders & absorbing contact when scoring around the basket, but she also displayed good footwork to score with a variety of different moves from the low to mid-post & good touch going over the rim or off the board. She also showed that she is more than just a post player with the ability to play facing the basket, taking opposing forwards off the dribble & hitting the occasional mid-range shot.

We had a potluck lunch at work today, so I made a Vegetable Curry. This was from a Trinidadian (Caribbean) recipe, but is very similar to Indian recipes, except for a couple of ingredients.
Packed with lots of vegetables (onion, garlic, tomato, zucchini, sweet potato, cauliflower, peas, spinach, cilantro, & fresno chili) & plenty of spices (curry powder, all-spice, nutmeg, smoked paprika, thyme, cumin, cayenne pepper, & black pepper), it turned out very good. [The Indian faculty & students in attendance all told me they liked it, unsolicited, so that is an impressive stamp of approval.]
Tossed some of the leftover Bosnian-Style Gulash (that I made and froze last week) with Egg Noodles and served it with a dollop of Sour Cream to create a Beef Stroganoff-ish type of dish for dinner tonight.
Stopped at MingHin Cuisine in Chinatown in Chicago for some Dim Sum. I got BBQ Pork Rolls (bottom left), Home-made Fish Balls (top left), Stuffed Bean Curd Skin with Pork & Shrimp (top middle), and Deep Fried Taro Puffs (right). They also come with Chile Oil and Hoisin Sauce for dipping.
MingHin Cuisine has become one of my favorite stops in Chinatown. After the pandemic, it was one of the few places open after 10pm in Chinatown and, as such, became a frequent stop for me. [Previously, practically every restaurant was open until at least midnight it seemed.] My understanding is that there is still not a lot open after 10pm, even on weekends.
