You could replace "America" in that statement with literally any other country or culture that's existed throughout all of human history. Slavery has existed everywhere at all times and it operated exactly as you describe every single time up. What set European (particularly Anglo-Saxon) culture apart was they were the first to recognize that it was a bad thing and then actively fight to end it (Civil War in the US and the anti-slave patrols by the Royal Navy).
The process of ending slavery is still ongoing. You don't end 6000+ years of culture in even just a century or two. I do find it telling that the places that still practice slavery (large chunks of Africa, Communist countries) are putting a lot of effort into trying to shame Anglo-American country for once having slavery instead of celebrating them for the being the first to try and end it. Shame the liberators for being liberators and it makes it easier for them to hold onto their own slaves
i still think about how when the black panthers started feeding kids free breakfast, the federal government literally was so angry that they started raiding the locations where kids were still eating. this is all intentional and designed.
Absolutely, Fanon describes this difference with Creole vs. French. And makes the argument that seeking proper French is essentially begging a culture that don’t want you
To me there’s a certain TONE to “sounding white”. It’s not “proper” English, it’s a tone & texture to Black voices that differs from the tone and texture of others. There’s an air of entitlement to white voices that comes from hundreds of years of history that we can’t match lmao
If I say everyone should have access to food, clothing and shelter and your first response is "But..." Then our worldviews are irreconcilable and further engagement is wholly unnecessary.
The end.
I love people who engage with media and the things they love like this. Things we enjoy and that are precious to us don’t have to be “good” by some universal, objective standard and that’s the beauty of it!
