@arpangup Nobody is saying extrinsic motivation doesn’t work. It does. But it works differently in the brain than intrinsic motivation. In fact, pay people (or kids) to do something, and you usually kill their interest once the payment stops. Congrats, you bought compliance.
@WayneVaughan@MrDanielBuck@AlphaSchoolATX Sounds like your son is loving it... that's awesome! Genuinely curious what advancing to the next grade looks like at alpha. Isn't is supposed to just be adaptive to whatever level the kid is at? How do grade levels get taken into account?
@majdav_ @meetmarzy And the data architectures they've implemented will be difficult to scale to new domains. We deliberately started with fuzzy nuanced areas like executive function, communication, etc to create a general learning coach.
@majdav_ @meetmarzy I'm glad there are many different approaches coming out, but even our math dependency graph is a lot nuanced than a strict DAG. I suspect the "easiness" of the math dependency graph is because the people who can develop a learning app learned math in a specific way.
@cmicon@turing_hamster Hey @cmicon, I'd love to chat with you about what you'd like to see in @meetmarzy . I'm currently working on the "recommendation algorithm" that takes into account parental minimum level of mastery (with easy state requirement pre-sets) and learner interests and goals
@ph0rque@Bagz_Tech @meetmarzy Great! Our backend specifically refers to users of the app as "learners" and we're building the algorithmic infrastructure to be general enough to support verifiable domains like math to abstract areas like EQ, SEL, communication, negotiation and salesmanship etc.
@arpangup The best in any field aren’t driven by money alone. Purpose, curiosity, mastery >>> cash.
What do you want your children to be? Lifelong learners striving for excellence... or tiny mercenaries to chase the almighty dollar
@arpangup Quick test: how many adults would keep their job if the paycheck vanished? Exactly.
Now ask: do we want kids to stop learning the second there’s no grade, prize, or gold star attached?
@teachthemx3@Bagz_Tech Yup, student intent routing is going to make student led learning magical. @meetmarzy does that but we're focusing on a conversational voice learning coach instead of a chat interface for the youngest learners.
@OfficialLoganK Hey @OfficialLoganK, do you know if the gemini for kids release will allow API I usage targeted towards minors? I'm building Marzy, an animated tutor / coach for children @mulhollandHQ and would love to try using the Gemini Live API for the backend
