Verifo vs Grass: A Different Kind of Decentralization

Most people in the decentralized AI space know Grass. You install a browser extension, share unused internet bandwidth, and earn tokens while AI companies scrape the web through your connection. It is a real product that solves a real problem.

But it is worth understanding exactly what a Grass node actually does.

Your device becomes a proxy. Scraping requests are routed through your IP address. The actual computation, the data processing, the decisions about what to collect and how to use it, all of that happens on Grass's own centralized servers. Your node never sees the output. You earn a bandwidth fee and that is the end of your involvement.

Verifo is built around a completely different question. Not where bandwidth comes from, but whether the output of an AI task can be independently verified by anyone, at any time, without trusting a company's word for it.

Here is how every Verifo task works:

- A task is routed to a contributor node running on real hardware
- The node executes it locally
- The output is hashed with SHA-256
- That hash is anchored to Solana mainnet via the Memo program
- The node co-signs the transaction with its own cryptographic key

The result is a permanent, publicly verifiable record on-chain. Anyone can look it up on any Solana explorer and confirm that a specific output existed at a specific time, attested by a specific node identity. No central operator needs to be trusted for that to work.

Grass solves a data sourcing problem. Verifo solves a verification problem. Both are real problems. But if what you are building requires AI outputs that can actually be proven, the architecture underneath matters more than the incentive on top.
