The person responsible for making them at the inn is Paul. He gets the batter ready and makes sure there are enough to go around. The tins need to be hot, the fat needs to be smoking, and the oven door must not be opened too soon, we've been told off for this.
WHAT ARE THEY?

Massive thanks to the talented Steven Cahill for building both completely bespoke around our pub (and cheers to his family for letting us hijack him!)
That hospitality remains in our DNA today. No matter who you are once you cross the threshold, you’re safe, warm, and among friends always, not clicky just comforting!!
We Were Built to Shelter Strangers
An inn like ours started because travel in medieval Britain was tough, cold, and downright dangerous. Long before motorways and hotels, monasteries and local lords opened alehouses so travellers would have a hot meal and a dry roof.
For our family, it’s simply home. We’re the fourth generation behind this bar following right in Mum and Dad’s footsteps, with the next generation already helping wipe tables and stock bottles during the school holidays.
People often ask us what it feels like to run a pub that’s stood here since 1307.
The truth is, these 700-year-old stone walls have seen every kind of weather, every historic shift, and centuries of locals stepping through the door for a warm hearth and a cold drink.
September means one thing: the hearth is being prepared for the colder evenings ahead. No shortcuts, just dry kindling, rolled paper, and the exact routine passed down through generations. The bars will soon smell like autumn again. Come and see 👀

Seems like the nation’s favourite pubs right now aren’t the flashy ones - they’re the proper pubs. The ones with real history, a warm welcome, and character you can’t fake. 👀 we’re the oldest inn in Yorkshire, since 1307 - and we’re sticking to what we know. #meetmeattheinn
What’s your favourite newspaper or magazine to read when sitting in our inn? What would you rather, look on your phone or phones away and pick up a book or paper or magazine?? Give us your thoughts 👇
We’ve 4 shows left on this current tour but only 1 with tickets available which is at @WychwoodFolk so if a Saturday night of music in the Cotswolds is your thing then come on down!
