@CrispyTots4U Look at your own screenshot: both are Strong's 2316, both glossed "God." Theon is accusative because pros takes the accusative. Theos is nominative because it's the predicate. Same word, different case, like he/him.

@taco_talks Funny how your 'She's not omnipotent' rule applies to Mary, but you give demons 5G signal everywhere. 🤡🫵

@CrispyTots4U En archē ēn ho logos, kai ho logos ēn pros ton theon, kai theos ēn ho logos.

Yes, yes it does.

@DarkSnow678 It is nestoriansim. Not arianism.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@Wictor2501 @ArkhamStealth @Verlustt11 Also worth noting this isn't just a Catholic reading. Calvin and Luther both read Onan's act itself as the sin, and Wesley agreed. Protestants broadly held that view until the 20th century. So "that's a Catholic teaching" doesn't really hold up historically.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@Wictor2501 @ArkhamStealth @Verlustt11 I'd say it's not a stretch so much as a cumulative case. Matt 5:28 clearly condemns lust. Onan's death still needs explaining, since disobedience, greed and deceit weren't capital offences elsewhere. Something about the act itself went beyond them
Together they point the same way

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@ArkhamStealth @Wictor2501 @Verlustt11 Lev 15 covers marital sex (v18), involuntary emissions (v16) and menstruation (v19). None of those are sins, so the chapter is about ritual purity, not morality. That means it can't tell us whether a deliberate act is wrong either way, and Onan's death still needs explaining.

@CrispyTots4U 3/ Monogenēs means unique: Isaac is Abraham's monogenēs (Heb 11:17) though Ishmael came first. And begotten isn't created. Like begets like. Col 2:9 says the fullness of deity dwells in him bodily, not that it flows through him.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@CrispyTots4U 2/ The Word who is God became flesh (1:14). The Baptist, born first, says he existed before him (1:15, 30) and that he isn't worthy to untie his sandal (1:27). And your own John 1:18 reads "the only-begotten God" in the earliest manuscripts.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@Charlen60403930 @benedict_usman @kramschust2 It is saying just like Noah, the 8 family members are saved through the water. You now to are saved through the water. If you had read all of 1 Peter 3 you would have know that.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@CrispyTots4U ALL things were created through him (1:16), and the fullness of deity dwells in him (2:9). Creatures don't create everything.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@CrispyTots4U "Firstborn" in Col 1:15 means preeminence, not creation. David, the youngest, is called firstborn (Ps 89:27), and so is Ephraim, the second son (Jer 31:9). Read the next verse: ...

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@Wictor2501 @ArkhamStealth @Verlustt11 focus on "what he did" suggest the act itself mattered, not just the disobedience. Open to hearing how you read it though.

[A Fez @TheologizingFez]

@Wictor2501 @ArkhamStealth @Verlustt11 Fair point, the text alone doesn't spell it out. But Deut 25 sets the penalty for refusing levirate duty as public shame, not death, and Judah refused too without being struck down. Onan's death and Gen 38:10's ...

@ArkhamStealth @Verlustt11 Onanism is wrong but some how masturbation isn't?

@shagbark_hick Luther didn't remove the pope he made million's of them.

It's true, the "Bible alone" mentality yields a particularly insane kind of Christology.

Like God became Man, divinely inspired a Canon of Scriptures that wouldn't even be fully written for a century after His time nor assembled into a Canon for ~300 years, and then said:

"OK, I'm done talking now, and done with miracles, just figure it out. And because I'm omniscient I know all of you are gonna disagree, but since I definitely didn't give you any tools to prevent that, you're just gonna have to figure this one out on your own. Also: basically everyone who follows me for the first 1,500+ years is gonna get it wrong, so don't look to them for help."

This is a fundamentally insane idea of who Christ is.

It also situates the individual believer in a kind of "choose-your-own-adventure" game in which he is always winning, obtaining esoteric knowledge about God, etc.
