Just wind, wood, and some really cool mechanics.

This is Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands, and you're looking at one of the last working wind-powered sawmills in the world.

Here's how it actually works: the wind turns the sails, which spins a massive vertical shaft. That connects to a crankshaft that turns the circular motion into an up-and-down motion for the saws.

It's all wooden gears, too. Not a single electric motor in sight.

This whole system is over 400 years old.

Back in the 1600s, this area had over a thousand windmills.

It was basically Europe's first industrial zone, sawing the wood used to build the ships for the Dutch empire.

What's wild is that it still cuts real lumber today using the exact same efficiency principle we use in modern factories.

It's a real, working craft, not just some museum show.
