LRT. Not to be a rabble-rouser, but I think a lot of this stems from the fact that some people simply don’t like Adichie anymore because of her politics. That inevitably colours how they assess her work and legacy because someone saying you can’t be a writer and reader in Nigeria and you haven’t read Half of a Yellow Sun shouldn’t have this much outrage. Chimamanda has earned her place in the canon the same way many celebrated contemporary authors in other jurisdictions have. Respect to our contemporary Nigerian authors, but I doubt many of them would even want to be compared against Chimamanda at this stage. A good number attended her workshops, benefited from her mentorship, and have openly acknowledged her influence on their careers. She has shaped a generation of writers. One of one.
