What you don't understand is that you're arguing it is essentially Jewish to drag a donkey to death behind a truck, to drone bomb food relief convoys, to assassinate EMTs and bury the ambulances in the desert, and THAT insane ideology is an enormous threat to Jewish safety.

1) A quick FYI, Micah -- Judaism has been around for a very long time. For the vast majority of that time, there has not been a state of Israel. The Jewish religion we have today is one that developed out of thousands of years of diaspora.

2) Yes, when mainline Jewish institutions aggressively declare that criticism of Israel equates to antisemitism and that the American Jewish community will stand with Israel no matter what crimes the state commits, a lot of people are going to start ascribing the Israeli regime’s horrifying conduct to all Jews. This is an obvious fact.

3) The logic of Zionism rests on the claim that Jewish safety necessitates a Jewish state. But tying the reputation of our people to the rogue government of an ethnostate is not making us safer. It’s making American Jews more vulnerable to the kind of antisemitic mass politics that we haven’t had to worry about in this country for a long time. That’s what my Jewish sons have to look forward to. We have every right to be mad at leaders like you who are contributing to that danger.
