One of the most pernicious lies the media has propagated is that journalists possess some special freedom of speech unavailable to everyone else. They do not. The First Amendment does not create a privileged caste called “the media.” Freedom of speech belongs to everyone, equally.

And “freedom of the press” does not mean special constitutional privileges for people carrying press credentials. The press is the means of publication and dissemination, historically the printing press. That freedom belongs to everyone too, because freedom of speech is worthless if you are forbidden from publishing or disseminating what you say.

This is elementary constitutional law. Yet media figures, including increasingly toxic voices at Fox News, continue pretending that calling yourself a journalist somehow entitles you to rights the rest of the country does not have. It doesn’t. That lie should be called out every single time it is repeated.

Except it’s not. It differs substantially in key ways. Did you even look at it? Do you even care about the facts? And if you do look at it and you do see the important differences that advantage American security in this new agreement, will you step up and tell your followers that you were wrong and that Trump has actually negotiated a better agreement than we had?

Note that it doesn’t even take that much effort. Just ask @grok about the ways that the new Greenland agreement are more advantageous to United States security than the prior agreement. It’s so easy to do, if you want to do it.

It never ceases to amaze how many supposedly educated people do not understand what “the press” means in the First Amendment. It refers to the press in the sense of publishing, historically the printing press. It does not create a privileged class called “journalists” with special constitutional rights unavailable to everyone else. The First Amendment protects the same freedom of speech for everyone, exactly as it should, and, as a second step, the press, as in the freedom to disseminate information, because freedom of speech is useless without the right to disseminate it. This is all very elementary stuff, and yet there are still countless people running around claiming that so-called journalists have special rights.

SCOOP: We just received videos of a disturbing event that took place on campus at Contra Costa College in CA

Students were directed to hit a Trump piñata until they decapitated it. Lorena Gonzalez, a counselor at the college, appeared to be overseeing it. After beheading the Trump piñata, Gonzalez appears to celebrate.

We reached out to @lifeatccc and they responded saying they don't "condone or allow violent political rhetoric." They then claim the incident was "addressed as a personnel matter" and refused to give further details.

The incident took place a few months ago. We just obtained the footage last week.

Gonzalez still appears as faculty on their website.
