Today's story recaps my patriotic duty to play Halberd Studios' 9 Years of Shadows in preparation for the release of Mariachi Legends.

THIS is the issue with how game developer success is perceived.
The developers of Bastion worked at EA. Practice practice practice. Nobody counts your work leading up to your success, but it's there for everyone.
The world is broken. Its surface seethes with an undead curse, while humanity clings to flying continents in the sky.

The biggest insult to an Artist is loving them the wrong way. Hate them all you want. It rolls right off of them. You can’t possibly hate them more than they hate themselves.
I still think make smaller games is just win-win on all accounts.
Either you,
-make a hit
-get more practice in
-accrue a network
-create a backlog
I'm sorry but a lot of people are held back by their BIG VISION. If your first 4 games are guaranteed to fail what would you make?
Congrats to them, but this is such a bad take. They’re 1 in a million succeeding with a quick 4-month game. While 'make smaller games' is solid advice, framing it as a guaranteed strategy is misleading for most indies.
I had a chat with Harvey Smith about growing up poor, dealing with the deaths of his parents, and how those things shaped his outlook on work and life. https://t.co/eMUAakgaqd
@TheCartelDel I made videos in a similar vein and I think:
-it's worth getting it off your chest
-and while I don't regret it, I wish I had made more positive or uplifting videos because I think the negative videos were a waste of time in regards to actually making a change
Doing some research but here is a list of developer teams I am keeping an eye on. I'm building a separate list of mobile developers because many of them are dual-releasing on mobile and PC (which is smart) similar to Genshin, ZZZ, Arknights and Once Human etc.
I'm about to go through the entire game list see upcoming plans and who might be cooking.
Some folks have had stumbles, some have gone silent, but if you're on the Creator side of this business building relationships with folks early in their process that are outside of the big 9 publishers is an important part of your portfolio.
I think GamesCom is going to go hard this year, and with so many devs shifting dates outside of November, it can be very beneficial for folks who build a smart strategy for both reaching out to developers and to the developer and creator teams who need to connect with a large and competitive group of global creators.
