🇮🇳 Rajesh Exports Faces SEBI Probe Over Alleged ₹15.15 Lakh Crore Financial Misstatement!
India’s market regulator SEBI has launched a major investigation into jewelry exporter Rajesh Exports after alleging that the company misrepresented financial information worth ₹15.15 lakh crore (approximately $1.77 trillion) over a five-year period.
According to SEBI’s 109-page order, a large portion of Rajesh Exports’ reported revenue came from overseas subsidiaries, particularly Switzerland-based Valcambi SA.
The regulator claims the company failed to provide sufficient financial disclosures about these subsidiaries, making it difficult to verify the source of most of its reported revenue.
The investigation has triggered a sharp sell-off in the stock. Rajesh Exports shares fell to their lower circuit limit of ₹104
The company’s market value has collapsed dramatically over the past few years. From a peak share price of ₹1,000 in February 2023, the stock fell to as low as ₹80 in April 2026.
SEBI estimates this decline has wiped out approximately ₹27,999 crore (around $3.27 billion) in market capitalization.
Public investors have been among the hardest hit. SEBI estimates that around ₹12,725 crore (approximately $1.49 billion) in public shareholder wealth has been erased during the stock’s prolonged decline.
The case has also raised concerns for major investors. As of March 2026, Life Insurance Corporation of India held a 10.8% stake worth about ₹334 crore ($39 million), while retail investors collectively owned a 14.13% stake valued at roughly ₹437 crore ($51 million).
Together, nearly ₹770 crore ($90 million) of investor wealth remains exposed to the stock.
SEBI also alleged that ₹339 crore ($40 million) of company funds were routed to promoter Rajesh Mehta's personal accounts without proper approvals or disclosures. In total, transactions worth ₹926 crore ($108 million) are under scrutiny for lacking required governance approvals.
Following the findings, SEBI has barred Rajesh Exports and its promoter from accessing India's securities market until the investigation is completed.
