We ❤️ this video of our newest building, Westhaven! It has 57 units where residents receive supportive services, such as access to case managers and community events. Affordable housing combined with supportive services is the 🔑 to solving homelessness. https://t.co/JFk7qYn5nO
FACT: 92% of people housed by The People Concern, NEVER experience homelessness again. We know that the key to helping people stay housed in wraparound supportive services that provide them with case management services on-site. Housing plus services solves homelessness.
FACT: In a recent USCF study, nearly 40% of people were experiencing homelessness for the first time. They said that an extra $300 - $500 a month would have kept them housed. We must make housing more affordable to stop people from falling into homelessness.
FACT: Los Angeles is short about 500,000 affordable housing units. Although 205 people find housing every day, 225 fall into homelessness. The key to ending the homeless crisis in LA is building housing.
#Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. As we celebrate, we must also remember that Black Americans continue to feel the effects of past racist policies and continue to face systemic racism. 🧵(1/6)
These ongoing struggles contribute to the overrepresentation of Black Americans among the homeless population. Disproportionate poverty rates, lack of affordable housing options, and systemic barriers continue to perpetuate housing issues. (5/6)
Yesterday we celebrated the Grand Opening of Westhaven: a new Supportive Housing community located in @CountyofLA offering 56 apartment homes for formerly unhoused individuals and one manager’s unit. Thank you Supervisor @HollyJMitchell@LACDevAuthority@ThePplConcern & more!
