Gov. Pritzker just signed the Sonya Massey Bill — named for a 36-year-old Black woman, daughter, and mother of two, killed in her own home after calling police for help. Stricter hiring rules for Illinois officers are a step toward protecting citizens and preventing more families from joining the fraternity of grief no one should ever be part of. Thank you, Gov. Pritzker.
On this day in 1873, a mob of hundreds of armed white men attacked the Grant Parish courthouse in Colfax, Louisiana, killing an estimated 150 Black people, many of whom were trying to flee. https://t.co/To2pwef9rH
@clvr_suzy I say yes, include it. It will weed out the passive bigots from advancing you, and the departments that value you and your work will prioritize you.
Along with @chiarapack, I'm really excited to be launching the Punishment & Society Reading Group this semester! First up is Disciplining the Poor on 9/21! Please DM or email me for more info.
@TreyButNotSongz Also consider that A’ja doesn’t go overseas like CP3 and others HAD to do …because of where the old guard took the league now. Candace had to play nearly year round and endured injuries as a result. I choose both, but wanted to make this point.
So very pleased to announce that I am returning “home” to the Boston metro area for good. I’ll be joining the fantastic faculty of @FraminghamU Sociology & Criminology. At GEG for the last time, headed to Boston Logan. Cheers!
