@hearthandcoffin Just last night, as I lay my head down at 2am, ideas started flowing. I worked out the shape of a short story I'm working on and made copious notes on my phone so I wouldn't forget. I've woken up this morning energised to finish the thing.
I never begrudge night-writing :)
@katelynmbecker Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K Dick. It's what Blade Runner is based on, so people may already be familiar with the world, but (from memory) the story is quite different .
Plenty to discuss with that one, which is what brought it to mind.
@cousins_pete@L_R_Schulz I think it's part of the Chronicles of Amber, try searching for that. Think it was part of the SF/Fantasy masterworks series. I bought it new a few years ago and it wasn't anywhere near that much...
@DrunkScribe Thanks for sharing this - I'm struggling right now too.
I've got no answers, not sure there are any, just hang in there until it lifts. And in the meantime, know what you do is valued and worthwhile, even though it may not seem so to you.
@AJWinters94 I've remembered another one!
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."
Miss Piggy
@AJWinters94 "Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn't mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar."
Edward R Murrow
@AJWinters94 I have loads, but two that spring readily to mind:
"If you're not scared or angry at the thought of a human brain being controlled remotely, then it could be this prototype of mine is finally starting to work." John Alejandro King.
@emmasaurustex After the Goldrush by Neil Young, although I heard it sung by a local folk group when I was about 4.
Something about the fantastical, dreamy nature of it appealed to me I think...
Good luck to all those competing in the @nycmidnight#shortstorychallenge2023!
Especially to my fellow group 175ers:
Action/Adventure
Abandoned
A gunslinger
Feeling I got lucky with these but now the hard work begins - bring it on!
