Vice President Vance is trying to shift the blame for his failed negotiations onto others, making one false claim after another simply to avoid admitting that the talks with the Islamic Republic failed because of his own naïveté and his lack of understanding of how the ayatollahs’ regime operates.

Because of his misplaced optimism toward the ayatollahs, Vice President Vance gave this terrorist regime a major opportunity to humiliate the United States on the world stage.

The Vice President of the United States also appears to have little understanding of the Iranian people. He seems to view Iranians—who are victims of the regime and are fighting for freedom and democracy—as a threat, while treating the ayatollahs’ regime as a trustworthy negotiating partner.

I hope Mr. Vance comes to understand the realities of the region as soon as possible. As long as the ayatollahs’ regime remains in power, there can be neither stability nor lasting peace in the Middle East.

The Strait of Hormuz must be reopened, and the Islamic Republic must be prevented from acquiring a nuclear weapon—at whatever cost is necessary.

Recent security reports indicate that the regime has transferred around one hundred uranium enrichment centrifuges to the Kolang Gaz La mountain facility and is moving rapidly to advance its nuclear program.

At the same time, the Strait of Hormuz remains unsafe for commercial shipping, while the regime continues supplying the Houthis in Yemen with military support in an apparent effort to threaten or disrupt navigation through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait as well.

The world cannot afford to give this regime more time or more opportunities. Every delay brings it closer to achieving its objectives. If the Islamic Republic succeeds, its destabilizing ideology and aggression will spread far beyond the Middle East.

This regime is not only responsible for the oppression and killing of its own people and for its relentless hostility toward Israel and the West. It also poses a direct threat to the Arab states of the Persian Gulf and to global security.

If the international community fails to act before it is too late, the consequences will extend far beyond the region.

Preventing the Islamic Republic from becoming a nuclear-armed state is not only a regional necessity—it is a global imperative.
