I always say, “Emotions are simply, pieces of data.”
Then, an (off duty) ayahuasca guide in training told me… “Humans have emotions so they can make sense of situations” - we bonded over the concept of neutral noticing.
Feelings aren’t facts. Think like a curious scientist 🤔
A teenage patient’s mother told me the family often calls therapy sessions “story time with Hillary”… and I feel so seen and supportive.
Therapy is a place to share your story with others… and to hear the story coming out of your mouth… and to hear stories of other people 🗣️
Every day we gather more data & better able to meet the challenge of learning the way our minds work… Bi/unipolar depression etc are ways to experience the world, to see the ups and downs from an alt perspective. To feel deeply, conserve energy, connect, cocoon and create beauty
Your friends get sick before you, due to the Friendship Paradox (your friends are, on average, more popular than you)
If you ask students to each name a friend, those friends get sick 2 weeks ahead of everyone else since they are more central to the social network & more exposed
Anxiety and depression aren’t meant to be squashed or silenced… they’re here to be heard and honored.
Like harnessing a flowing river of water, strong emotions can be agents of change… while a trickle of awareness is equally powerful and can wear down mountains over time.🛶🏊♀️
Lions have teeth and claws.
Humans have words. Thoughts. Ideas. Plans. Strategies. Techniques… All contemplated, perfected, and passed down via language.
The words in your mind and in your mouth are a powerful weapon as any.
Wield words carefully. 🦁
Hands up if you’ve ever taken a bite out of a street burrito (or burger, or taco, etc) with such ravenous force that you accidentally ingested a little bit of the wrapper?
There has to be more of us out there…

TIME AND PLACE:
Life is for living: Enjoy the people around you and the moments you are in.
Discussion tables are for discussing. (AKA: conflict… conflicting ideas come together on purpose in safe spaces).
Put it on the calendar, so you are ready and prepared… bring notes📅
SET UP YOUR ENVIRONMENT WITH CUES TO TRIGGER HELPFUL IMPULSES:
1) Put water on your nightstand
2) Leave your lunchbox by the door
3) Place expiring food in front of your face in the fridge
Everyone wants to live in flow and be efficient. Hacking impulses can help…

Is it related to ADHD or no?
Human beings have impulses.
That’s what we can expect living in bodies and having brains.
If you find yourself engaging in more “impulsive behavior” that is leading to negative natural consequences… you have the option to hack your system:

Free will means you always have a choice.
You can’t choose your destiny but you can choose your adventure along the way.
Will life be: on easy mode, or full of suffering you’ve caused yourself, or perhaps… it can be easy when it’s meant to and challenging when it’s meant to?🎮
What you start at work causes ripple effects. 📈
What you start at home causes ripple effects. 🫂
What you start on the street causes ripple effects.
What are you starting today? What power are you holding right now?
What change are you enacting without even realizing it? 🐉
The changing of seasons outside tends to bring about, on the insides, a *literal* shift in us humans.
It’s important for us to acknowledge the energetic changes all around… to be with them… to radically accept what is present and then change what we have the power to change.🍁
@stewdean I know there is a low income ticketing option, along with tickets granted to artists, not just musical talent but artists setting up interactive sets… spreading goodness. Leaving society for a time.
You seem to feel strongly about this, but have not yet explored its meaning.
Burning Man is the millenial Woodstock.
It is every generations right to bear witness to the collective consciousness of goodness, love, support, and common humanity. 🔥
@stewdean Interesting take. Have you been? I have not, but I know some privileged AND under privileged folks who have had beautiful experiences. Of course, people seek “edgy” everywhere.
What are your other ideas of where people witness the collective coming together in gift economy?
The most fragrant and colorful flowers attract the most pollinators.
I learned that house flies are excellent pollinators. Like hair in the sink… flies in houses appear gross because that’s not where they’re meant to be… but when found in the garden they’re beautiful🪰#context
Lately I’ve been diagnostically differentiating between:
1) Depressed: Seeing the world through dark-colored glasses. Disorder. Distorted. Misperception
-Must activate🏃🏼♀️
2) Depleted: Nothing in the tank emotionally / physically
-Must rest 💤
It can also be a combo of the two👯
